The amount of physical pain Randy has is evident throughout the film, demonstrated by tensor bandages, bruising, limping, and many other visual indications of discomfort. Rosenfeld (2008) explains, “chronic pain is one of the most common reasons why people seek medical care, use health services and remain absent from work, with prolonged absence from work leading to physical deconditioning, anxiety, fear of re-injury and loss of self esteem”. Randy is aware that his conditions are worsening resulting in a lower self esteem, and his sense of belonging.
