What is a Farmer?
What Is A Farmer?

A farmer isn’t just a person that grows food. A farmer is a provider. They provide all the fruits, vegetables, and meats that we like and need to eat.

Farming isn’t just a hobby, it’s a job. It is the farmer’s job to grow flowers and foods, and to raise and care for animals and then sell them.
I think that it would be hard to be a farmer. Farmers have to work very hard sometimes to make a living. Some farmers have to work from sunrise to sunset. And farmers rarely get days off. However, many farmers love their job.
You can’t just be a farmer without any knowledge. You have to know enough about crops, growing conditions, and plant diseases to make good decisions. Farmers also need to know how to use tools well to fix things. They also need to resolve conflicts and manage people. Farmers need to have business skills. They need to know accounting and bookkeeping. Many people learn from farming from growing up on a farm. Children, like myself, learn a lot about farmers from farming clubs like 4-H.
When the students learn about farmers, some may decide that they want to be one when they grow up. If they do they should take classes in math, biology, and other life sciences.
As you can see, farming is obviously not that easy to do without an education. Now I know what you’re thinking. “How much do you get paid to be a farmer?” Well, some farmers vary from year to year. For example, a farmer may show a profit one year and a loss the next. Many farmers may make money in others jobs. Some farmers run farms for other people and get a salary.
Local conditions will determine where farmers work. For example, if you want to produce milk, you’ll most likely to find a job in California,
Wisconsin, New York, or Pennsylvania. Or if you want to produce eggs head to Iowa, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, or California. And if you want about cotton you should try Texas, California, Mississippi,
Georgia, or Arizona. Now those

God said, "I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt. And watch it die. Then dry his eyes and say, 'Maybe next year.' I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from a persimmon sprout, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, who can make harness out of haywire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. And who, planting time and harvest season, will finish his forty-hour week by Tuesday noon, then, pain'n from 'tractor back,' put in another seventy-two hours." So God made a farmer.…

I really enjoy farming and would like to make a career out of it if at all possible. In order to farm you don't really need to have any special kind of degree. You can go to college and get a degree but it really won't help you that much. That's why I have chosen a Core 40 degree because if I decide that I want to college after all I will be eligible.…

he youths are the right doctors for ailing agriculture here in Trinidad and Tobago. Most of our youth seem to turn a blind eye to what is seen as just hard work in the sun. It’s not their faults of course, for many years our parents tell us ‘I don’t want you to go through what I went through!’ and that was toiling in the fields to send their children to schools to become doctors and lawyers. Agriculture was our home then, but it was a hard place to live in. From that time to now, in the eyes of society anything seemed better, even the janitor in a fish market had a ‘better job’ than the farmer. But that’s the problem though, till now farmers are seen as sitting at the bottom of society. And if you cannot have anyone’s respect, nobody wants to be you. They were deprived of the respect society owes them and this keeps our youth away.…

When people say “start them young,” they are usually referencing to sports or school, but for farming lifestyles this means learning the basics of farming at a young age. For me, this started during hay season when I was just nine years old. Hay season is during the summer months when the crop is ready for harvest. For my family, my dad will look ahead at the weather and find the perfect week that it will be dry and windy to cut the hay. He puts aside all other work, and the hay gets first priority. The cutting of the hay comes first, which is then followed by raking. This is where I first learned to drive not only a tractor, but a tractor with a rake behind it, which flips two rows of hay into one. My dad was busy cutting other fields, and needed someone to drive the tractor. He figured I was the perfect one for this job. He taught me the basics of driving and how to control…
