Background
Mrs. Mason, grew up in the state of Nebraska. She describe her village as less than 600 people. Her parents are still alive and has two brothers and two sisters. Her parent were divorce when she was 6 six years old. After her parents’ divorce everyone in the family was requested to attend counseling sessions as part of the divorce process. They all attended counseling sessions, but she remembered herself in one of the sessions that her counselor wrote on the board A.D, which mean after divorce. Mason decided that she could change many aspect of the counseling session that she remembered and expressed that she wanted to become a better counselor in which she would assist people in recovering and healing from marriage and family therapy. She started to attend college around the age of 20 years. She apply to take psychology in Iowa State. She was accepted and during the summer time she took a job in summer camp as a counselor with children. This provided her with gaining experiencing in her area. She had to make decisions at this time whether she wanted to continue to be license in another area, but decided to continue firm in selecting LMFT. She mentions that she does not regret her decision. “This has been the best decision that I have chosen in my life. I love my work and working with people.
What kind of therapy do you most are prevalent to use in Family Therapy? One of the therapy that she used in her session is the system approach. Even though this will depend on the individual. Whether is marriage, children, and co- worker? The way a counselor handles their cases, this will impact the kind of services they will received. Mrs. Mason indicated that she uses all different approaches such as CBT, solution focused therapy, brief therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, family system theory, experimental (EFT) and dialectical behavior therapy. By using all of these kind of approaches we get a blend of different interventions and techniques that can be used in one individual. She indicated that the one that she uses most is CBT.
