“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. “The Pledge of Allegiance has been with us since
1892 and written by Francis Bellamy. We recite these words every morning at school. But do we think about what they mean?
The pledge means that I live in a republic, where I have the right to vote, live, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. I have the freedom of speech, press, and religion. I’m very lucky and grateful too. When it says, “Under
God” that’s important to me. I know there’s been arguments, and I understand. I still say that it’s important to keep God in the picture. “God” not only goes for Christianity, but Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism. I don’t think atheists have much to complain, but that’s another story.
One of the most important things the Pledge of Allegiance means to me, is that all Americans will be shown justice, and fight for it. We will be treated equally, and we will have liberty. To many people from other parts of the world, the United States of America is the perfect country, mainly because the citizens have freedoms and are shown justice. The Pledge of
Allegiance is important, and it sums up what the U.S.A. is all about. What the
Pledge of Allegiance says makes a proud American, and it should be the same for you!
