Some of the things that mostly surprised Mollie-as-Gerald was that the woman had a baby and couldn't get close to the child. All she did was complain about not having enough energy to clothe herself. You can tell she was suffering from very bad depression. She would stay in her room with the door locked with the wallpaper; which drove her crazy. She made herself believe there was a woman behind the wall and she needed to be set free. One day, she locks herself in her room once again and begins to tear and rip off the areas to free the lady and her husband finally was able to unlock the door and saw her madness.
