The American Revolution was an important part of world history. There was a conflict between the patriots and loyalists. The patriots wanted independence from Great Britain; however, loyalists wanted to remain loyal to the British government. The American Revolution was revolutionary because the patriots fought for independence from Great Britain and they succeeded. Also, the Declaration of Independence was written. Many leaders helped make the fight for independence possible and helped shape the revolution.
The patriots wanted to break away from the British government because they were treated poorly by the king. There were many famous patriots. “Some of them became presidents such as Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence and John Adams. Perhaps the most famous patriot at the time was George Washington who led the Continental Army and later became the first President of the United States.
The declaration stated that all men were created equal as well as listing the unjust things that the king has done, such as cutting off trade and imposing taxes without the colonists’ consent (U.S. History). As well as grievances, it also stated that the colonies were now free and independent states and were therefore granted all the rights that other independent states have. As you can see, the declaration was a key document of the revolution. As you can see, the American Revolution was definitely revolutionary because the colonies gained independence from Great Britain.
