What Were Abraham Lincoln's Accomplishments

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He served as president through the years of 1861-1865. He was a Republican and was 52 years old when he was inaugurated. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, and he died on April 15, 1865, by being shot in Washington D.C. President Abraham Lincoln had many, many, many accomplishments. For example, he signed the Homestead Act. This act means that the government would give small lands to farmers. Those farmers would be called “homesteaders.” They would try their luck with farming. After a five year time period, if the farming was successful, the “homesteader” got to keep the land. If not successful, they had to return their land. This act was very beneficial, because it was a chance for a greater life! He established the United States
It made Thanksgiving officially a national holiday for the Americans. It is now celebrated every November on the fourth Thursday. He made the Emancipation Proclamation. This meant that slaves were freed in the confederate states and they had to join the Union Army. This was one of the first signs of equality. He led the union to victory in the Civil War. Lincoln continued the fight to save the Union. He got general Robert E Lee to surrender in 1865. Six days after that, Lincoln had gotten assassinated. He became the sixteenth president of the United States. This is more of a personal accomplishment to him than to us, but still a very good accomplishment.
