The European Imperialists were pushed by three main factors which were economic, political, and social. The European Imperialists started to colonize Africa in the nineteenth century. “It developed in the nineteenth century following the collapse of the profitability of the slave trade, its abolition and suppression, as well as the expansion of the European capitalist Industrial Revolution”.(Africana Age). The countries that were mainly competing for power were Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The Reason that this is causing conflict is because the countries that are trying to get power are trying to get power because they want to be in cntroll and have more trade routs to make trade and transporting goods easier. But Africa didn't want to give up their land and so this conflict started.
