The city of troy was officially abandon at 500 AD, the city was destroyed due to the Romans and the sophisticated and well know plan know as the Trojan Horse. The Trojan Horse was a invention/plan the one of the Greek Generals came up with to destroy the city because every other plan failed due to Troy's advanced and strong defense around the city. The basics of the plan was the Romans leave a large wooden horse outside the walls of Troy and leave the area making Troy think they won the long fought battle, but inside the horse was 30+ Roman soldiers waiting. The City brought the horse inside as a Trophy for the war. Once it was night the soldiers snuck out and destroyed the city.
