marines.
Enviropigs were first designed to adress the issue of environmental contamination caused by the phosphorus in the manure of agricultural animals.
It is stated by Rebecca Cederberg that “when diposing the pigs large amount of phosphorus and other poultry, it is a major environmental concern” (n.d.). The new genetically modified pigs are essential for the environment that we live in now as it helps the environmetnal and marine conrcerns. The Envirpoig’s manure is now being used to eliminate the need for phosphate supplements in feeding costs and also helps the large amount of phosphorus that are released from the manure due to lack of breeding space. The modified Yorkshire pig the Envirpig will also decrease the harmfull runof that causes excessce richness of nutrients into the water which cause algae to grow into the water. As algaes increases its growths, this eventually will lead to a reduction in the oxygen affecting the aquatic animals. The deaths of fishes and other aquatic lives are caused by the oxygen reduction, not only that as algaes increase this produces toxins in the marines and polluting the water supply making it unsuitable for drinking (Romana, …show more content…

The Enviropigs are genetically modified to produce phytase in their salivary glands which helps speeds the decompositions of the phytic acid known as the phosphate enzyme Phytic acid, an indigestible phosphorus that is found withinin pigs foods such as grains and oil seeds.
Although the modification of the Yorkshire pigs helps to protect the marine environment the Enviropigs cannot produce phytase by themselves in their stomach as they are a monogastric pigs, as this makes the pigs healths’ at risk due to the the large changes in its genetics making. Phytase are food supplements for animal that conatins many nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, carbohydrates, proteins and minerals. Envirpigs must need phytase inorder to keep their diet balanced(Romana,
