The Colosseum is located in the center of Rome, east of the forum. It is the Romans largest amphitheater. Constructed in four floors, 80 arches on each. From the first floor up, they are 34 feet, 38 feet, 37 feet, and then 45 feet tall. The Colosseum had tremendous seating. It usually sat 50,000 people, with sectioned seating. The nobles had the closest seats, on the first two levels. The regular men sat on the top two levels. There are 15 feet between the ground and the first row of seating. Throughout its existence, the Colosseum had been dealt tremendous damage from natural disasters and people. There have been multiple earthquakes that have hurt the Colosseum in some way. 443 AD was the first recorded earthquake that hit the Colosseum. It is not said if any damage was done, but the earthquake hit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. 447 AD is the next recorded earthquake that damaged the Colosseum. For 40 days, the city shook, damaging the Colosseum. In 508 AD, the arena of the Colosseum collapsed from an earthquake. In 1349, there was a fatal earthquake that hit the Colosseum and made the south side collapse. Finally, in 1703, an earthquake hit the Colosseum and the east side was damaged. Touring began in the 20 century and still brings people from all over. But some artists perform concerts at the Colosseum. Most of them have to perform outside if they have a large concert because the inside is not in good enough condition. If the concert is small enough, people will be seated inside in temporary seats. A concert would have to be so small, only consisting of a few hundred people, to qualify to be inside the Colosseum. There have only been a few artists that have performed outside the Colosseum.
