“School’s Out for Summer,” written by Anna Quindlen, is a persuasive writing trying to support starvation. The intention of this article is to show how students all over the United States have nothing to eat while family members are gone at work. Anna’s argument is very effective, giving great detail into what it is being done.…
Quindlen uses this essay to address this issue. She shows how many children aren’t being fed during the summer and that even though they have some things to help it these things don’t fully prevent it from happening. “In most cases these are not parents who are homeless or out of work.” Quindlen informs us. It brings to the forefront the issue that the lady who just checked you out in the Walmart line or the waiter who just brought you a diet coke may not know where their child is getting their meal when school lets out. Anna Quindlen uses this essay to showcase those things.…
Recently there has been revisions to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and schools were required to overhaul their entire menus to provide the students with healthy and nutritious foods including fruits and vegetables. The new school lunch rules are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which has been implemented this fall. (Post Standard) The Hunger Act allows the USDA the opportunity to make reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs. With these revisions come strict guidelines from the federal government that each school district must follow in order to receive funding and reimbursement (National School Lunch Program, 2012, August p. 1). In this essay i will be comparing the positive and negative effects of these recent revisions to the NSLP. I will then discuss whether or not these changes are beneficial to the children receiving the meal and whether NSLP is leaving children hungry or helping children make healthy food choices.…

Imagine trying to make yourself lunch everyday using only $2.95 This is what schools are forced to do on a daily basis in order to feed thousands of children. Schools have to be able to create a lunch for children that will satisfy their hunger, using only almost $3 per child. How can we expect our children to be getting the proper and nutritional food with such a small budget? Why aren't we doing more to to make sure the kids in our country are eating healthy meals while away from home? How can we make sure the students will react positive to healthier school lunches after being exposed to such unhealthy food for so long? There are so many questions to be asked and many answers to be given. I think we need to focus more attention on this dilemma because these kids are our future, and we need to make sure our future is as healthy physically and mentally as can be. Next, there needs to be better lunches at the cafeteria at HMS. First of all, the lunches need to be bigger so the students can eat more. Before it was stated that students need food to focus in class. The current lunch sizes are for elementary schoolers. Middle schoolers are growing and need more food. Some people believe that the lunch sizes are fine but they are wrong because the kids will still be hungry. Ask the students, make a survey they will be hungry after lunch. They don’t have enough food and the little food we get is not even filling. For example, they have five small chicken wings that cost four dollars. The amount of chicken wings that we get is worth $1. Next, more kids will eat and it will be good for health. The school can…

School lunches lack healthy nutrients that growing children and teens need. Because, schools lack the proper funding needed to support students with healthy lunches, students have a horrible diet. A lot of people, including myself, believe that if healthy school lunches were provided students at home would make better choices when it came to what snacks they ate between meals. If schools got better funding for healthier lunches it could theoretically save the government more money because the students in turn would have less health problems.…
