First, the setting or the beginning of the poem is already highly related to the main idea and that is making a choice. This is because the traveler has already chosen one of the paths and writes about the past. If the writer had chosen another path, the poem may not be written in this way or even published. In "The Road Not Taken", "I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence," tells the reader that the writer is telling about the past, and it is using reverse chronology. The writer puts the memory at the first and pushes it back to present at the end of the poem. The purpose of writing "The Road Not Taken” is to emphasize how important of ever choice making. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference” tells that the writing has already experienced how making choice would affect the future and that has made “all the difference”.
