Where Have The Good Men Gone Summary

After reading the article “Where Have The Good Men Gone?” my reaction to it is somewhat surprised and understandable. Today, young men rely on their parents more than back then, for money and a place to live. Kay S. Hymowitz states that young men in their twenties behave like adolescents during their years in college. It is true that most young men and women are “job hopping” in order to find their passion and what they like, which delays the path to adulthood. However, this is not true for every man in the world, since it can also apply to women as well. Hymowitz states that women are better than men in this way, and this is somewhat true. However, no matter what, if someone is determined, they would always worked hard to reach their goals and earn their achievements
Antolini made a “flitty” advance towards Holden. This leads to some believing that Mr. Antolini is gay, while others believe he is not. When Mr. Antolini pats Holden’s head while Holden was sleeping, Holden then wakes up and freaks out. He assumes that Mr. Antolini was making an advance at him and runs off. However, in my opinion, I believe that he did not make an advance but was just doing it to show that he cares about Holden and his well-being. When Holden visits him, he gives Holden advice on life and what Holden should be doing instead of just moping around. He tells Holden that there is a time and place for everything, and his job is continue high school and not give up. He also tells Holden to not linger on about the past and not to give up on life just because someone he loves died. He encourages Holden to continue and keep going to school. By his actions, this can be interpreted that Mr. Antolini does actually care for Holden and wants what is best for him. By “patting” Holden’s head, it is an action that shows how Mr. Antolini can be a father figure to Holden by telling him what he should do and caring about
