Which Country Will Own the 21st Century?
Which country will own the 21st century is a very complex issue with many sides to explore. The first side to look at is what actually is considered by the term ownership, second we must look at what which countries can fit within the ownership criteria, and finally what country will be the one to claim ownership to the 21st century. This paper will discuss ownership is the definition of proprietorship. With this definition one can see that there are many different countries that could fit within this definition in the 21st century. This paper will classify the criteria that will be used in three different ways; GDP, natural resources, and a countries military power. These three criteria are the best way to look at the ownership of the 21st century as GDP is the “monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country 's borders in a specific time period, though GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis. It includes all of private and public consumption, government outlays, investments and exports less imports that occur within a defined territory.” (Investopedia) This means that it includes all of the production within the country and is a great indicator of the economy. In regards to natural resources these are a great way to measure ownership in two ways, firstly consumption and secondly what is available in the country as consumption shows, over time, the growth of the country as the larger the country is the higher their energy demands. Finally military power is a criteria as it shows how far the country can defend its natural resources and shows the power that it can use to influence global decisions. There are three countries that have the most potential to dominate the 21st century; China, America, and Russia. China’s GDP is currently at 9.24 trillion USD (China GDP), America’s GDP is 16.8 trillion USD (United States GDP), and
