It is important to understand that whistleblowers often suffer loss of their careers, family, and financial security (Taylor, 2009). Eileen Foster was no different. She risked her career to represent ethical standard she was challenged with when she became a licensed financial reporting officer. The oath that she took was important and she chose to be honest and fair with her actions. She reported the unethical activity that was being practiced at the Boston Countrywide offices after an employee was
terminated due to resisting the practice. The organization was unethically transferring signatures onto documentation used for loan commitments.
Although, Eileen Foster is not the only employee to come forward with detrimental information concerning a company that makes profits from consumers, she did lead in her efforts of maintaining her integrity and honesty. When she committed to uphold the ethical standards of her profession, she meant it. She acted on a tip of information that may have been considered bogus. Along with her investigative ability she found error and stood strong in her willingness to report it even after being bribed to maintain confidentiality.
