Sylvia is a lonely little girl, living away from all of her other siblings on a farm spending her time with Mistress Moo, a friendly cow. One day, a hunter seeks refuge
looking for a rare bird; the White Heron. He offers Sylvia money for the birds nest. She declines the offer and climbs the tree where the White Herons nest is. Once upon the tree, she looks at her vast surroundings to find a beautiful ocean and wonderful scenes of scenery.
There aren’t a lot of characters in the story: the Hunter, Sylvia, the White heron, Mistress Moo, and Sylvia’s Grandmother. Earlier in the story as the grandmother is caring for the Hunter, she tells him she had two other children. Sylvia’s mother and her uncle. The grandmother explained that she hadn’t seen the uncle or Sylvia’s mother for a long time.
In the White Heron, there are so many quotes you could pull from.
In my opinion, the story has a great message about being loyal and making your own decisions whether the people you hold dearest agree with you or not. She made a good choice on keeping the white herons secret because if she took the money, a complete species would have been extinct.
