White Noise Chapters 4 and 7 Questions
Chapter 4
1. Jack, the narrator of the book, does what Hitler would do as an expert by doing what he would do, thinking like him, and wearing what he would wear on normal occasions. This illustrates his true character as Hitler and how gaining weight and changing his physical appearance may affect him later in the book.
2. This relates to many people, of our current society, who are striving for celebrity because there are thousands of people, to this day, trying to be like some else. For example, there are many individuals who are trying to be like Taylor Swift who many look up to and respect as an individual.
3. The book White Noise, by Don DeLillo, demonstrates an idea of white noise, when it specifically states, “[Dying] cures us of our innocence of the future” (DeLillo, 15) shows the “silent” message that the author of …show more content…
There are several sways that our society, to this day, tries to “Ward off death” (DeLillo, 27) by allowing death to take over your entire life, which seems to be what is occurring for our narrator here, and for some, death seems to be something that many do not fear in our society because it is something that happens to everyone and it seems that Jack understands that in the book, and it is something that can’t be stopped or controlled by anyone.
3. The book White Noise, by Don DeLillo, specifies an idea of white noise, when it specifically states, at the very ending of the chapter, “Is it true? Why did I say it? What does it mean” (DeLillo, 26) that illustrates the idea of giving the reader information, that is enough to get their attention, but not sufficient information to help them understand what you are trying to state, otherwise known as white noise. Its overall purpose is to help the reader understand your message and to stop them from putting your book away and not reading any further. Lastly, it can be used as an attention
