The effects that this situation generated in terms of how the children’s self esteem was when wearing the collar. The collars when worn by either the blue eyed or the brown eyed students made them have a much lower self esteem as compared to the other group of students. This is because as individuals the students felt as if they were less superior and discriminated against. The affect a certain prejudice that is placed upon not only children but everyone will have an astounding affect. In reference to this exercise, I believe that if administered correctly could potentially help people to have a clearer understanding of what “White Privilege” and will help them to unpack the hidden privilege. Having said this, I also do believe which is in agreement with the teacher Jane Elliot, that this shouldn’t have to be an exercise that children need to go through because it can be damaging. In today’s society though it is an issue that people have to deal with. In summation to this reflection upon this movie/ documentary and article we should all as teachers try to strive to help our students look at each other equally and treat them with the same respect, and by providing this lesson of no discrimination to our students. This will hopefully inspire a future were anyone regardless of what their skin color or their ethnicity can feel powerful and just as important as the people that surround
