feel different by constructing separate bathrooms. The politicians fuel the hatred in the hearts of whites by creating laws. This is evident when the white man is
He’s taught in his school
From the start by the rule
That the laws are with him
To protect his white skin
To keep up his hate (Dylan line 23-27).
The laws make the blacks and whites separate because the “Southern legislation” says that,
“It shall be unlawful for a white person to marry anyone except a white person. Any marriage in violation of this section shall be void. The officer in charge shall not bury any colored persons upon ground used for the burial of white persons. Books shall not be interchangeable between the white and colored schools, but shall continue to be used by the race first using them” (Stockett, 202). These laws made by the government brainwash children as well as adults which is shown in this poem, “Only A Pawn In Their Game” when the politician tells the white man that “You got more than blacks, don’t complain. You’re better than them, you been born with white skin” (Dylan line 11-12). This makes the whites think that they are better than blacks which is why when the white kids grew up in The Help they wouldn’t talk to their previous maid. This is evident when Aibileen says, “I want to stop that moment from coming – and it come in ever white child’s life – when they start to think that colored folks ain’t as good as whites” (Stockett, page 112). Segregation separated whites from blacks because of their thinking and actions.
