Some may know Whitney Houston, then there are some who has just heard of her. Well there are people like me that see’s Whitney Houston as a legend. But even as this historical figure we see her also as living proof that everyone has their own way of life. She’s the type of artist that isn’t only famous for her music. So let me just give you a little bit of this history. Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born August, 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. Her parents were John Russell Houston Jr. and gospel singer Cissy Houston. Whitney was the youngest of thee and the only girl, she always knew what she wanted to do with her life and was very good at it. Whitney was raised as a Baptist and attended New Hope Baptist Church. By 11 Whitney was regularly performing at her church as a soloist. At the age of 14 then became a backup singer on the Michael Zager Band’s Single “Life’s A Party”. Which later in 1986 was nominated for three awards, best new artist, album of the year, and her first Grammy. The performance for her Grammy later earned her an Emmy award that year. June of 1987 Whitney released her second album “Whitney”, that won her second Grammy for best vocal performance. She then became the first female artist to generate four #1 singles from one album. “Whitney” was certified 9x Platinum in the U.S. for over 9million copies, and sold a total of 20million worldwide. In 1989 Whitney meets R&B singer Bobby Brown whom which she then dated. November 1990, her third album was released “I’m Your Baby Tonight”, this album also went platum. In 1991 Whitney performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV (25). By 1992 Whitney and Bobby were married, a year later Whitney gave birth to Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown. When she was 19, Whitney Houston was discovered in a night club by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista records. In 1985, she released her debut album Whitney Houston and almost immediately became a smash pop sensation. Houston followed the monumental success of her album with a second release, Whitney in 1987. During this time the singer also appeared at a concert for Nelson Mandela’s birthday, and founded the Whitney Houston foundation for children, a nonprofit organization that funds projects to needy children all over the world. By 1992, Whitney Houston was on top of the world but her life was about to get real complicated very fast. That year she married the r&b singer Bobby Brown. After the marriage was passionate and loving, but the things turned sour as the decade progressed and both Brown and Houston battled substance abuse and increasingly erratic behavior. In spite of these growing personal troubles, Whitney continued to progress in her career. In the late 1990s to early 2000s, Houston increasingly rocky marriage struggled with drugs and health problems threatened to derail her career.
