Who deserve the reward?
In the Frank O’Connor story, First Confession, there was a young seven year old little boy who find himself in the not so good situation to go to the confession for the first time because he is scared. His older sister Nora, who always behaving like an angel and receiving all the compliments from the adults. And it describes the struggle between a boy and his sins and who should deserve the reward. Jackie, under the torment of his older sister, realizes the importance of the truth through the perils of his first confession. Jackie, a young little boy deserves his rewards because he is honest and brave; however, Nora his sister does not deserve hers because she is a hypocrite.

Jackie deserves a reward she receives because he is honest and brave. He is honest

because even though he is just a kid he as a courage to tell to the priest about what he did to Nora and to her grandmother. He went along with Jackie and told him of bad people who also wanted to kill her grandma. The priest understands the boy about the situation even though he pissed off to the boy when he tried to kill Nora with a bread knife. And also the priest was really nice. He helps him to understand that his actions are not evil. Jackie felt comfortable with him and told him how he almost killed her grandma with a bread knife and related to him. For the instance, the priest gave Jackie forgiveness and love. He knows that Jackie is an innocent boy and deserve the second chance that is why he forgive the boy. Jackie was been true to himself because he knows that was the right thing to do. The priest was so happy and very proud to the boy.

The money that Nora receive came from her grandmother. She was a kind of pest at times

because she probably did not want her grandmother to feel bad and she sucked up to her, but the way she did it was Jackie did not like. Nora is very hypocritical in her treatment of Jackie. She

tells him that if he doesn’t confess all of his sins that he will come back as a ghost to burn hand marks into people’s furniture.
It was also not nice to her to scare Jackie about the confession knowing that it was not really bad. As well as, she does not deserve the reward because she is a fake sister. She always tormenting Jackie and pretending that how sorry she was to Jackie because of what Jackie did. She pretends that she was a concern to Jackie even if she’s not. She was kind of a mean sister because she hits him with no reason.
Therefore, Jackie is a dynamic character because he learned in the end that even though he has a morbid thought of killing his grandmother and sister.
Then after talking with the priest, he became relieved and realized that the intention to kill means nothing. And how Nora was suddenly jealous of Jackie’s small penance and candy he received from the priest.
