Little did she know, the skills she acquired at a young age would help her with future business endeavors. Jung has credited her parents for being her biggest teachers of ambition and drive, offering her rewards if she was able to produce high scoring marks on her report card. Throughout her educational career, Jung took every opportunity to be involved in extracurricular actives such as student government, starting off as class secretary and working her way up to Class president. Andrea Jung then went on to graduate magna cum laude from Princeton University earning her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature. She did what she was expected to do during her tenure with the company. Increased sales, provided for the Avon Ladies, and stamped the Avon name in multiple countries. However, I do believe she quickly became an ineffective manager in 2010, independent sellers started to complain that taxes they paid cut too deeply into their wages, causing business to quickly collapse in Russia and Brazil. In 2011, Avon was under full investigation regarding allegations that the company bribed officials in China to allow them to sell door to door. This fell under the FCPA, which makes it unlawful for a U.S. person, to make a payment to a foreign official for the purpose of obtaining or retaining business for or with, or directing business to, any person. This investigation, along with declining recruitment numbers and sales, forced Andrea Jung to resign as CEO of Avon. In 2012, Andrea Jung was listed as one of the world’s worst CEOs in 2012. Their decision for this was due to her long string of poor performance, declining stock, and a weak board. Today, Andrea Jung is running Grameem Company, she was able to bounce back from all the Avon turmoil and continues to empower women, and support those in need.
