observes and watches what everybody else says the each other in private or out loud to where everyone can hear. There is soon to be a rebellion on the farm and all of the animals are trying to figure out what the plan should be. When it comes to planning, all of the animals look up to Napoleon and good ole Squealer. While this may be true, when Napoleon and Squealer have ran out of their fascinating ideas, they all look to Benjamin for other wise decisions knowing that he is the old, wise, and intelligent donkey. Napoleon and squealer are very wise themselves, but do not live up to Benjamin’s standards. Within George Orwell’s novel “Animal Farm”, Benjamin’s suspicion of a revolution comes true, proving that he is wise and intelligent. Benjamin is the wise one on the farm and he tries to hide it.
He tries to hide it because is not a “show off” and likes to keep his thought to himself. This being true, he trusts that the conditions on the farm are horrific and that nothing will ever really change the conditions on the animal farm for the creatures, so he chooses not to be involved with it. He is the most intelligent animal. He can read, even though he only reads when it is the exact right time to. He reads the side of the Knacker when Boxer is taken away to be killed, however carefully when it is past the point where it is even possible to keep from being killed. Benjamin, similar to alternate characters, was composed by Orwell to speak to some bit of World War II. Benjamin speaks to the wise old skeptics who declined to get included in the political dramatization of World War II since they had seen power change hands such a large number of times and conditions never showed signs of change. The general population never truly had any force and life never truly enhanced after some time. They trusted that this would pass over and that they just hoped something new would come
along. Some animals on the animal farm do not have faith in Benjamin and immediately look to Napoleon for help, or either Squealer for wise thoughts. Even thought that all of the animals on the farm may have different opinions on who they would rather go to for good advice, in Orwell’s Animal Farm on page 33 “Benjamin could read as well as any pig, but never exercised his faculty” proves that Benjamin is the one to go to for advice and could read as well as any pig. Benjamin does not exercise his faculty because he is mainly worried about himself and nobody else. Even though this may be true, this doesn’t mean that he will not help someone every now and then. He would just rather sit back and observe everyone else’s thoughts. In this quote, Benjamin proves the he is intelligent and can understand the world around him and not stupid like previously thought in Orwell’s Animal Farm on page 5 “Benjamin was the oldest animal on the farm and the worst tempered”. This quote shows that Benjamin is smart, considering that he is the oldest animal on the farm. Everyone knows that the older one is, the wiser one is. The older one get the more one has seen and experienced, making them smarter. Benjamin most likely expected for the rebellion to come within his long lived lifetime. Benjamin is a very curious donkey. In this quote, Benjamin proves he is curious and not empty mined like previously thought in Orwell’s Animal Farm on page 43 “But Benjamin was watching the movements of the men intently”. This quote shows that Benjamin is observant by saying how Benjamin curiously watches the movements of the men intently and specifically. Benjamin may seem very involved to some of the animals on the farm, but he really is just a laid back, old, wise, intelligent, smart donkey that observes all of the other animal’s movements and thoughts carefully and curiously. Benjamin is the most intelligent animal to currently live on the farm. He has lived for an extremely long time and has experienced certain things that one may never be able to experience themselves within their own lifetime. He is also the oldest animal on the farm. Everyone thinks of Benjamin as their Dad, knowing that he knows every tick for tack about the animal farm. The animal farm is like Benjamin’s home. He was raised here and will surely want to die and be buried here. He is a much laid back donkey and likes to observe every one of the animals’ thoughts. When help is needed, they politely ask him for thoughts and ideas that might make them feel secure about themselves or a certain situation. Benjamin might not care about helping one with a situation, but it is definitely worth a try to ask him. If he does decide to help you, you will not leave with uncertainty about something you that you have a problem with at first before you went to ask Benjamin. When Benjamin answers ones question, he makes sure that when you walk away, you will know everything about the topic. Benjamin’s suspicion of a revolution comes true, proving that he is wise and intelligent.
