Hawthorne stated “So strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman’s strength.” Hester dealt with her guilt wisely and in an unselfish way. For example, she donated the excess of her wages to the needy people in her town. In addition, she helped the sick, including the governor while on his deathbed. Although, it seems the governor didn’t
appreciate it, she continued to do so anyways. She gained respect from people by all the kind things she did, and how much she helped people.
In addition to helping people, she would sew clothes for the town. Hester could sew very well, and many needed the service. They basically wanted her to do it as a charity. Almost like they did her a favor coming to her, because of her sin. In one part of the story they didn't want her to sew a wedding dress because they felt like she would curse the marriage. Hester endured a lot, “For the accumulating days, and added years, would pile up their misery upon the heap of shame.”
In conclusion, Hester dealt with a lot of shame and heartache. All her strength and power came from within, because she had no support. In time, people of her community forgave her due to her helping, being honest, and confessing to her sin. I feel Hester’s quite the role model, and women should look up to her. Hester's “A” shown more known as “Able” than adultery.
