I stumble across the sand towards two figures. They are bigger than me and one of them is definitely bigger than me. I ignore it and step out of them into the platform. The very big boy helps me to my feet. The normal one continues to blow the conch when I dimly hear shouting in the forest behind me. I squat in front of the normal boy and stare up at him brightly and vertically. I slide my pink thumb into my mouth. The big boy looks down at me and asks for my name and I give him my answer. I hear the big boy repeat my name and shout it to the normal boy, who did not respond because he was still blowing the conch. Signs of life were now visible on the beach.
