Who Is Jay Gatsby A Good Man

The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922. The story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his quixotic passion and obsession for the beautiful former debutante Daisy Buchanan. Considered to be Fitzgerald's magnum opus, The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream.
I agree with that Gatsby is a great man in the beginning. Daisy is a vain and giddy woman.Tom
is a vulgar debauchee whose weak limbs developed.He just did not understand what is the loyalty.And Miss Baker is a distant, compulsive lying.And she is proud of herself.She is a unthinking athlete who born in the middle-class family.And Nick, is a perfect man who has perfect character.He supports himself by a faithful work. Even if the work is extremely boring.And he dares to stand out after Gatsby died with getting no personal interests t,fulfilling the obligations as a friend.He makes the arrangement of things, responsible funeral procession and so on.
But,what is the factor?After reading several times,you will find new thoughts about the role in the book.
The roles in the book have their own characters.They are different in many points.But,they are all common people.They could be sad,happy,crying,smiling and so on.Now,I will analysis the role in the book and prove my opinion.

2.Character Analysis

2.1 Jay Gatsby

Jay Gatsby (originally James "Jimmy" Gatz) – a young, mysterious millionaire with shady business connections (later revealed to be a bootlegger), originally from North Dakota. He is obsessed with Daisy Buchanan, a beautiful debutante, from Louisville, Kentucky whom he had met when he was a young military officer stationed at the Army's Camp Taylor in Louisville during World War I. Fitzgerald himself was actually based at Camp Taylor in Louisville when he was in the Army and makes various references to Louisville in the novel, including the Seelbach Hotel where the Buchanan party stayed while in town for Tom and Daisy's wedding. The character is based on the bootlegger and former World War I officer Max Gerlach, according to Some Sort of Epic Grandeur, Matthew J. Bruccoli's biography of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Gatsby is said to have briefly studied at Trinity College, Oxford in England after the end of World War I.
In my eyes,there is no doubt that Gatsby is naive man.No matter for his feelings, or for his life,he is too naive to be like a 17 years old boy.
He thinks that the people who love each other should be together in the life.Of course he also works hard, and be diligent.He can do all things to be standout without caring about the law and reputation.He is loyal,too.He even doesn’t look other people's wife more than twice. He is only interested in Daisy.He also is kind.For example, he doesn't elaborate on poor neighbor Nick with no discrimination. Even if he wanted Nick to help him to call Daisy out.He also hope to tell Nick the sources of his wealth as a reward to Nick. Fairness is an important kind of virtue.All his wrong seems to be his naivete.The naivete kills himself. These also do not bring welfare to the people who he loves.He make a mess of the life of the people around him.Maybe the only one who can benefit is his poor dad, a set of housing is given after her son developing.But the house may be hard to balance out the grief that he brought to his father.Love a person, without thinking how to make her happy, just want to satisfy your own desires, want to get her.It cannot be called mature love which is not worth for people to
admire.

2.2 Daisy Fay Buchanan

Daisy Fay Buchanan – an attractive and effervescent, if shallow and self-absorbed, young Louisville, Kentucky debutante and socialite, identified as a flapper.She is Nick's second cousin, once removed; and the wife of Tom Buchanan. Daisy is believed to have been inspired by Fitzgerald's own youthful romances with Ginevra King. Daisy once had a romantic relationship with Gatsby, before she married Tom. Her choice between Gatsby and Tom is one of the central conflicts in the novel.
Flamboyant Daisy has been depressed for a whole year because Gatsby has been abroad for expedition.From the winter of Gatsby leaving until the autumn of the second year,she does not appear in every social party.Even in one day five years later, she only receives a letter from Gatsby, she decided to cancel the commitment in the night before the wedding.And she composite with the former lover.From the view of the loving of female, this kind of loyalty is not easy.Let a young woman who born and grew up in the upper class without any skills, from her own class and the familiar environment, into Gatsby arms who born in the world which is blunt, uncertain,the source of wealth is instability, or even he dose not have high society familiar with pathological inclusive mentality about emotions.Running away with him, is a big gamble.It is not only the human whose age on Daisy will unconsciously refused, even a middle-class girl, such as teachers, lawyers, staff family foster daughter to follow a wild west cowboy, an officer to elope.It's hard to say this is a wise decision.
She is only a common girl.

2.3 Thomas "Tom" Buchanan

Thomas "Tom" Buchanan – a millionaire who lives on East Egg, and Daisy's husband. Tom is an imposing man of muscular build with a "husky tenor" voice and arrogant demeanor. He is a former football star at Yale. Buchanan has parallels with William Mitchell, the Chicagoan who married Ginevra King. Buchanan and Mitchell were both Chicagoans with an interest in polo. Like Ginevra's father, whom Fitzgerald resented, Buchanan attended Yale and is a white supremacist.
There is no doubt that Tom is a flaneur.From their honeymoon, he seduce a nearby restaurant waiter indiscriminately and rudely.When Daisy production,he screws around with other people.He never miss any opportunity to rekindle passion after marriage.I think such a incompetent person without loyal in loving, must not be able to change after marriage.He must have the nature of corruption,the sensuality is in his blood.In his sense of values, a man, a husband, never need any loyalty.
Now the age I live in, also exist the morality of men have like Tom.But even such like this contemptible man who has no loyalty, he also hold her under the yacht in order to keep his wife's shoes dry. For mistress insulting calling of the name of his wife,he punch her face.In his mind, his wife is a kind of reputation, is to belong to his own reputation, others can't be defiled.This may help explain why when he found his wife and his home have link with Gatsby,he immediately arrange moving house.Including he and Daisy in the night which Daisy killed Mrs. Wilson, in the bright and warm kitchen, in the face of a plate of cold Fried chicken and two bottles of beer quietly dialogue, he did not blame Daisy for she has admitted being in love with Gatsby and her husband's with embarrassment in the afternoon.Have to say that the man who is good at playing the role, may be suitable for Daisy who is weak and vanity, liking nonsense to to make life atmosphere.Instead of the rigid Gatsby who is naive, in
order to succeed by hook or by crook.
He is so truthful that be like a common man.

2.4 Nick Carraway

Nick Carraway – a Yale graduate originating from the Midwest, a World War I veteran, and, at the start of the plot, a newly arrived resident of West Egg, who is aged 29 (later 30). He also serves as the first-person narrator of the novel. He is Gatsby's next-door neighbor and a bond salesman. He is easy-going, occasionally sarcastic, and somewhat optimistic, although this latter quality fades as the novel progresses.
My only discontent to Nick,the moral model, is that he knew Gatsby deliberately seek all means just want to see Daisy, and knowing that Daisy has married.On the basis of the facts that Daisy has a three year old daughter after marriage,he acted as the matchmaking between their matchmaker.I thought that Gatsby and Daisy meet again is a matter of time, and Nick, can refuse to do the role.This is his wickedness, is chaotic, is weak irresponsible.
No one is perfect.The model also have disadvantages.We are all the common people.

3.Conclusion

Most of us in world are ordinary people.The role in The Great Gatsby are all ordinary people.You and I are same.
We are ordinary people.Only you can be strong and free to face reality, you can face the ordinary life.
Everyone thinks some people live very free and easy, some people live very decadent, some people waste time, some people in silently enjoying, some people want to get rid of the reality, some people want to forget the past, some people watched with smile, some people are trapped by the mood.
Only when the sun sets,you will be disenchanted, the time already far walk quietly, will not stop because of your love.
Everyone wants to have a different life, but a lot of people live the same life. A lot of people have big dream, a lot of people be desperate because of the dream and fear because of failure, or because they didn't insist, all of these have no meaning, because time will not wait
