What do you think about when you hear Salvation Army? The poor, the homeless, the hungry, a red kettle, or someone ringing a bell to solicit donations? Whatever thought entered your mind, please add the fact that they served 57 million meals in 2014 (reference). Their founder William Booth, decided to create an organization centered on community service off the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth. This fact along makes Jesus of Nazareth a Visionary and Ethical Leader. This essay will not focus on the religious teaching of Jesus but only a small aspect of his huge vision – love thou neighbor as thy self. Which simply means Brotherly Love.
Visionary Leader

not anomaly, “a man once said to Jesus he wanted to do more,” Jesus said that if he were so inclined, he could give all of his belongings to the poor (reference # 6). Jesus understanding of Transformational Leadership played a vital role in this interaction. He used Individualized Consideration (IC) (caring)(FRLD CF03SG-13) and Intellectual Stimulation (IS) (Thinking FRLD CF03SG-13) by telling the man “if he was so inclined”. He also used Inspirational Motivation (IM) (Charming FRLD CF03SG-14) which is “raising the bar”, by telling the man, “he could give all his belongings to the poor”. This encounter shows Jesus exhibited the characteristics of a visionary leader because telling someone to give all their belongings to the poor seems unpractical and unworkable at most. However, his vision of loving thou neighbor as thy self is practical and workable because the Salvation Army has proven this to be true and indeed possible. This interaction also shows Jesus had a DiSC dimension behavior trait of Steadiness (S). Which is according to Thomas Barnes [personal profile system CF04SG-7] are team players and very loyal to the team. His answer centered on taking care of the poor (the team) and how this man could support the poor (loyal to the team). Which is paramount for an ethical leader. Ethical Leader
Jesus of Nazareth was an ethical leader.
Not only because his vision was to love thou neighbor as thy self but because he cared. (reference # 2) According to John A. Broadus book entitled “Jesus of Nazareth”, Jesus was called “the poor man’s philosopher; the first and only one that has ever appeared. This can been seen when Jesus feed 5000 after a teaching ((reference #3) According to James Moore Book – The Amazing Mr. Jesus). Let’s apply Dr Toner’s consequence ethical test to this situation. The Consequences Test: – Will the end justify the means? Yes, because this is his vision. Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2012b p. change management LM06SG-3) defines Strategic Planning as the systematic process of envisioning a desired future, and translating this vision into objectives and a sequence of steps to achieve them, and in this instance, it seems that Jesus was a strategic planner because he truly understood IM. In that day and time, there was no better way to “raise the bar” for his followers, thereby allowing him to developing a team on a large scale (strategic planning). If we reflect back to the earlier situation with Jesus and the man, we can see his continued Steadiness behavior trait because he went from developing one to developing a team of followers using the same IM principle. His feeding the 5000 also shows his willingness to create and promote not only an ethical climate but to foster ethical behavior from his team. His ethical leader …show more content…
traits can also be seen when Jesus further utilized his team building knowledge to “break bread” with only his 12 disciples (reference).
Personal Relevance
Personally I have never told anyone to give all their belongings to the poor. I did grew up poor and received government assistance so I can relate to someone assisting the poor or feeding so many. Unknowingly, I developed a similar leadership style because I use to give money to the poor until I saw a 20/20 special report concerning con-artists on the corners and decided there has to be a better way. Maybe I remembered the ethical teaching of Jesus and internally decided to “raise the bar” not only in words but actions as well. That’s why I took my entire shop to lunch and paid for everyone. Not because we did something great but merely to show how as a SNCO I’m expected to “raise the bar” not only in words but actions as well. This was also my way of fostering team building and creating a climate of diversity (diversity LM03 Mod 4). Which is very similar to how Jesus displayed team building by “breaking bread” not only with his 12 disciples but also 5000 individuals. Which was basically a team he was leading /developing to become ethical leaders.
Conclusion
In summary, Jesus of Nazareth told a man to sell all that he had and give to the poor, he also feed 5000 without charging, these two interactions shows how Jesus vision of brotherly love and ethical teaching are directly related to every aspect of our Air Force Core values and our SNCO responsibilities. Brotherly love encompass and is directly related to every aspect of our Air Force Core values and our SNCO responsibilities. In his descriptive primer, Dr. Stafford states “Transformational leaders are those who transform their followers. Through the use of inspiration and motivation, they motivate their followers to do more than was originally intended – often more than either the leader or follower though was possible” according (critical thinking CF03SG-2) to our ALE phase I mod 2 reading. The scope of this briefing was to relate a small portion of a visionary and ethical leader - Jesus of Nazareth to my leadership style without including any religious aspects. So, the next time you hear the Salvation Army bell ring, I want you to think about 57 million meals were served and that being an ethical leader requires you to create and promote an ethical climate & foster ethical behavior similar to Jesus of Nazareth.

Jesus was once approached by a man who asked what he must do to enter the kingdom of heaven, and he told him simply: "Follow the Commandments." But when the man said he wanted to do more, Jesus said that, if he were so inclined, he could give all of his belongings to the poor, live the Gospel and spread its message.

Over the next three to five years I want to increase my skill set as a Transformational leader.
It was once said, “History determines how great of a leader you are”. It’s simple our history or time is based somehow off the birth of Jesus of Nazareth but exactly how time is calculated or who is using what to calculate time is beyond the scope of this briefing
