He wanted to retell the book in a modern form so it could be read easier. Steinbeck received his education from Stanford. He, however, went to college mainly for his parents and later dropped out in 1925 which resulted in no degree.He tried to support himself by working as a construction worker and then a reporter in New York, but he did not feel like he was living a full and prosperous life. This caused him to go back to writing his novels. However, when he came back from New York, he was a caretaker in Lake Tahoe for a short period of time. Perhaps God’s destiny was for Steinbeck to be a writer, not a manual
