In Kanye West’s “New Slaves”, he brings up numerous racial problems in society today, accompanied by a strong bass line and an increase and decrease of intensity in his voice.
Although the song adds powerful emotion to Kanye’s ideas and lyrics, a single song isn’t large enough platform to fully describe or argue a point to his audience. A blog post, on the other hand, would allow Kanye ample amount of space to fully develop his ideas and thoughts to his audience. One line in a song, could turn into paragraphs on a page, allowing Kanye to elaborate, adding details and factual evidence that couldn’t be accomplished in a song for fear of disrupting the flow of the song. These added words would help to strengthen his message, therefore reaching not only more people, but displaying a clearer and more developed
narrative. Not only will a blog post allow Kanye West to add more detail and commentary on his narrative, he we reach a broader audience. Much of Kanye’s listeners are from a younger generation, and Kanye’s music gets little to no attention from the older generation (Musicmetric). This is mostly due to older people not liking the sound of his music. In an online blog post, there is no sound. All focus would be on the words that Kanye writes, therefore the only thing people could dislike, would be his ideas and beliefs explained in the blog. A blog would also eliminate many of the possibly offensive language that Kanye uses. With no music accompaniment, Kanye would be free to write without any poetic flow and rhyme, therefore opening more sentences varying in length while also using altered diction that help to explain his ideas more efficiently in word form. A blog post would also allow Kanye to utilize pictures, providing a visual reference for his audience, therefore promoting comprehension of his narrative even more. While music is a great way of communicating and portraying ideas and concepts with a fun and rhythmic beat, it lacks the platform to actually develop an idea, and elaborate on it using details and factual information such as statistics and images. An internet blog post, would allow artists such as Kanye West, a platform to further develop and elaborate on the ideas and concepts in his songs, therefore improving his arguments and ideas. With the use of the internet and genre free platforms, a blog post would open Kanye’s voice to a broader audience, therefore enabling him to influence a greater number of people, hopefully for the betterment of all.
