For starters, the characters in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children are some of the worst I have ever seen (excluding Jurassic Park, of course). Our main character’s name is Jake (Asa Butterfield) and he’s as bland as a blank sheet of paper. He makes a little (besides a small squeak) to no reaction when his Grandpa dies and not much else is known about him that really makes me …show more content…
The beginning of the story goes really fast until Jake is at the island. This is where the next hour of the movie takes place, and it is probably the slowest pacing I have ever seen. Besides the main story, the film tries to focus on things that don’t really matter too, like how Olive (Lauren McCrostie)) has a fight with Enoch (Finlay MacMillan) because he never listens to her. Near the end of the movie however, Enoch kisses Olive when she’s frozen (during an action seen). Apart from the side stories, the ending was over as fast as my enjoyment while watching this movie. The ending (and I counted) wrapped up in about 10 seconds, and it wasn’t even an ending! The REAL ending happens about ten minutes before, when the peculiars go back to their ship. The ending after that however, is a side story about the relationship between Jake and Ella (Emma Bloom) which slowly turns into love. This ending is also wrapped up in a kiss, which isn’t necessarily bad, but trying something else wouldn’t have …show more content…
The movie felt more like X-men, where you have the side characters and one main character, doing things for two to three hours until the credits roll, causing you to say, “Wait, what?” I recommend you don’t waste your time, money, and popcorn on this movie. You’ll be better off buying the DVD when it's on sale and watch it at home. If you’re the kind of person that likes to stare at the moving pixels on your TV screen, this movie is definitely for you. However, if you prefer an amazing story with proper pacing and detailed characters, then sorry, you’ve come to the wrong door to
