Ben has been unmarried his entire life. He reports "I liked the girls OK and all that" but he never developed permanent relationships. Ben reports that he has always been "nervous with the girls and such" and he avoids making any significant social overtures with women. He meets his sexual needs matter of factly by visiting a prostitute on a regular basis. He reports that their sexual encounters are highly regimented. He refuses to elaborate on this point, stating that his mother taught him to "never talk about dirty things".…
This film follows our protagonist, Stella (Barbara Stanwyck) through her journey of courtship, marriage to loss. Stella sneaks her way into meeting Stephen Dallas (John Boles) after finding out in a tabloid magazine article about his family fortune being loss and him ending his engagement to Helen (Barbara O’Neil) the socialite. Stella’s complete devotion to her daughter Laurel (Anne Shirley) and her reluctance to change who she is, keeps her from moving to New York with her newly promoted husband Stephen (John Boles). Living separate lives, not completely confessing to the fact that the couple was what would currently be called “legally separated” due to probable censors. The film’s thematic of maternal sacrifice and the loneliness, devotion of the film cause this movie to become what is known in the film industry as a “Weepie”. The Mise-en-scene of the film is predominantly domestic and focused on the excesses of interiors and Stella’s outlandish fashions. The film cannot be categorized as realistic, even though it seems naturalistic at times. The storytelling of Stella’s constant journey to better her life and that of Laurel’s, is purely stylized. Stella’s persona sticks out like a sore thumb against the socialite circles, dressing in the eccentric fashions she deems as stylish, speaking too loud, not fitting into the lady-like deportment her husband demanded.…

Mrs Birling creates more of a negative force around Sheila by saying, ‘It would be much better if Sheila didn’t listen to this story at all.’ I say this because she is ‘supposed to be engaged to the hero of it.’ The quote from Mrs Birling, that I have given, is followed from the quote by Sheila, which I have also provided. This shows that Sheila is being aggravated by the rest of the family as they are all suggesting she isn’t there to hear the rest of the conversation between the family, Gerald and the inspector. With close reference to the extract, show how Priestly creates mood and atmosphere for an audience.…
James public school experience was like a roller coaster were it only kept going up and in loopty loops he had to go to an all jewish school because that's where his mother ruth wanted him to go to. This was all because of how Ruth passed was in her public school. Which was in a time period where people were separated by their skill color and judged for their religion. she says in that "back then it was a different kind of poor. A better kind of poor, but poor just the same. What I mean by that is you didn't need money as much, but you didn't have any neither."(9-12 cap.).She new that times have changed but she doesn't want them to go through what she had to go through. She before she even entered school had to change her name all because it…
Ethan and Zeena’s bedroom is an additional symbol for their marriage. Zeena presides over the bedroom as she does with their marriage. Their room is full of monochrome colors and darkness, like their marriage is dull and lifeless. Tension and unspoken words remain every day but “their thoughts [seem] to dart at each other like serpents shooting venom” (Wharton 98). Neither of them can spare enough emotion towards the other to even start a fight, except for one scene of open anger in their seven years together. Where most couples happily end their day…
Peaceful resistance to rules and regulations among society goes down historically as something so inevitably iconic as an occurrence known as civil disobedience. It is no doubt that civil disobedience, the act of opposing a law deemed unjust and peacefully disobeying it henceforth, spurs such great controversy in our society. Civil disobedience impacts society in a positive manner that does not hinder nor deteriorate the good name of the just nation that is home, but moreover poses as an influence for what is better accepted by humans as lawful.…

Berman is considered as the protagonist of the story, which represents an example of a well developed character. Character development describes the change an individual undergoes through the course of a story as a result of conflict that person encounters. Berman's life gradually changes from the beginning until the end of the story according to many incidents he has experienced. Though Natasha is shown as the title of the story, she is just another character revolving around Berman, and only plays an important role in his life. Firstly, Berman's character is presented as the normal teenager with normal activities. He still maintains naive about everything especially his sexual experience and knowledge. “At home, separated from my parents by doors and stairs, I smoked hash, watched television, read, and masturbated. In other basements I smoked, watched television, and refined my style with girls.”(Bezmozgis,86), this statement indicates that he is not terribly experienced in matters of the opposite sex. Likewise, “At sixteen, no expert but no virgin, I lived in a permanent state of want to. But for everything I knew, I knew almost nothing.”(92), with this statement, it assures the reader's certainty of…
A thing I noticed throughout the story is the manner the two characters behaved with each other. The tension the boy Roger has when with woman, Mrs. Jones. When given the opportunity to take her things he doesn’t. “ He did not trust the woman not to trust him”, making it seem as if he was more scared of her than he was of getting caught. Instead of making Roger more uncomfortable by asking about his life, she instead takes about hers. Doing this allows for Roger to be comfortable and understand where she’s coming from. The way she talks infers that she came from a similar background from him.…
So, the problem addressed in the story lies in the relationships of man and woman, in the way they get over the quandaries, in the way they treat each other. And I believe this problem is rather vital nowadays as many families divorce because they don’t know how to overcome hardships they face.…

With the inclusion of a woman in their midst, all hell slowly breaks out in the home. The action involves a kind of mating dance performed by the various male characters when provoked by Ruth, who turns out to be rather ruth-less. Set designer Eugene Lee has created a large, mostly open room, without a lot of distracting stuff, as the playing field for this heated competition. Brief bouts of violence and sexual play tumble through the conventional room.…
