My grandmother, Elaine Parker, inspires me in a way that few others can. She is inspiring to me is when speaks about dance, I myself am a dancer going on 11 years and she has studied everything from ballet to jazz to tap dance within a span of 20 years. Having someone in your family to push you and move you forward is one thing, but when they have experienced the same things as you…
My grandma is a huge part in my life and I always take her opinion over nearly everyone’s. When my grandmother was younger, she became a nurse at the hospital and she traveled a lot since my grandpa was in the military. So she worked at a lot of different hospital’s as…
I wanted to let you know that because I was treated poorly at your Willoughby location, I went to your Mentor location and received the best service ever. I went into your Willoughby store where 3 employees were talking among themselves for a good 15 minutes before I was even acknowledged. When I requested a phone to add to our company plan I was informed that they did not have any at this store but no other option was offered. I left in frustration. This is a common occurrence…
What have mentors done in my life to allow me to get to where I am today. In todays class assignment I understood what most of my mentors have done in my life. Throughout my existence I have had many people to help me continue on my journey as I went thru many test and trials. As I have had troubles with getting thru school with classes, students life, and motivation. One of my mentors would always be available to lend a helping hand to move on. My parents, siblings, family, and family friends have always been my cheerleaders, support system, and always given constructive criticism when I needed it. Without their support I would not be able to continue my life in a well balanced matter.…
1. Why are you interested in serving as a peer mentor again? I am interested in serving as a peer mentor again next year because of the experiences and opportunities that I have had so far. Looking back on my experiences in Econ 110, I appreciated the guidance I received from the class and from my peer mentors. I am excited to continue to help the incoming freshman class adjust to college by preparing them for life as an Agricultural Business student. More specifically preparing them for the CALS career fair, working with each student of their four-year plans, and being available for any questions they may have.…
I believe that I am qualified to be a peer mentor because I live by the saying “Abstain to Attain” everyday. As a young adult among so much peer pressure, it is hard not to cave in. I understand though, drugs, sex, and drinking alcohol isn’t worth it. I have too much to lose in life if I get pregnant at a young age, or if I become an alcoholic or a drug addict. My family is counting on me as well. I will be a first generation student and I will not let them down because I gave into peer pressure and went down the wrong path.…
“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” ~Edward Everett Hale. Therefore, because I am only one person, and one person may never perfect his knowledge in any field, I will do my best with what I have. For the aspects that I struggle in, I need a mentor to assist me in the creation of my paper. This mentor will need to be well informed in the field of science, exhibits good grammar and spelling skills, which I lack, and be responsible enough to turn in my assignments on time as to not penalize my overall grade. The Central High School faculty member that I feel best fits these requirements is Mr. Quick.…
I would share with my student peers especially the one that is interested in medical school and my mentor about what I have experienced throughout the mentorship experience by creating a small group. I would also give them as much information and knowledge that I gain from this opportunity, that I might had experience being as a true scientist. In additions, I would also help other who interested to participate in this mentorship experience next year, by addressing my struggles and how I overcome everything.…
Wisconsin has started to sue the parents of some school bullies. Parents are not happy about it although they have been given a warning. After the warning if the problem still persists, then the parents will get sued. Is this the right way to deal with bullies in school? Now schools have considered using student mentors to pair up with a bully. Bullies are not a force to be reckoned with. Several schools have tried multiple ways to declare themselves a “bully free zone” but none have had the best impact. When the wisconsin schools started suing, the bullying increased, and the schools started to notice that in reality, parents do not have full control of their child’s behavior. Some schools such as Cloonan middle school have started using student…
The reason why I want to be a mentor is because I want to extend my friendship, to get a scholarship , and to learn and improve about teaching skill. I want to extend my friendship with many people and have a lot acquaintances, I don't care about age because I can make friends with older, same age, or younger. Has a lot of friends are really important, maybe one of them can be your best friend or be a person who will help you when you get a trouble or when you need a help. You will never know when you will run into problems, so it is great if we have a lot of friends who will support and help us. Actually, I have a goal to make business in the future, to realize it I must have a lot of acquaintances, and I think become a mentor can enrich the…
My experience in teaching has mainly been in the role of teaching assistant for various courses at McGill University. I believe that academic teaching and mentoring is a challenging endeavor. To be effective as a teacher and as an advisor, I will encourage the following skills that I have learned and applied at McGill as a teaching assistant.…
I want to be a STEM Mentor so I can get to know the seventh graders, and help them get to know their school. It's important for the STEM kids to know that the high school students aren't as big or scary as they think, but that they're friendly, kind people who are there to help you and talk to you if you need it. The STEM Mentoring program will be a valuable experience for the seventh graders, and I believe I can play an important part of it by sharing my experiences as a member of the first class to go through the STEM Academy. It is important to me to make sure that these kids are aware of all the Sandwich High School has to offer them, and I want to be able to help them and answer…
I still remember the first step I took on the gravel road, wide-eyed and wary. Of the entirety of my 12 years on this earth, I was going to be away from my friends and family for the first time. When I told my friends I was going away to Camp Speers for a week they all had similar reactions, usually along the lines of “You mean that place we visited in 6th grade with the powdered eggs?” Most confused on why I would choose to spend a week of my summer getting eaten by mosquitos and away from the comfort of dramatic TV shows and a computer mouse. These concerns clouded my mind as I walked through the door of Cabin 9, only to be cleared away by the warm greeting of my new cabin-mates and counselor. As the week went on, I learned a variety of…
In an environment filled with uncertainty and chaos, my grandmother was my anchor. I moved in with her when I was very young, and she took care of me until I graduated college. Although my grandmother does not have a formal education, she taught me the value of attending college, setting goals, and managing my money properly. She encouraged me to pursue every dream I ever had, including the dream of becoming a singer.…
