President Lyndon Johnson was driven by politics, In a discussion; a Book by Robert Dallek Roy wilkins says President Johnson “If he felt so strongly about the issue, Why had it taken him so long to act on it?” Lyndon replying back “Free at Last”. While describing himself, Southerner from his political bonds (Document E). When Johnson says these things he is being political, he is wanting to takeover the votes of the citizens of america.

in his senate years he did not all the way oppose the Civil Rights Act, just not fully agreeing on it either. Lyndon saying “How ever he did help push through a provision, saying that anyone accused of violating the Act would get a Jury Trial” (Document D). In only seven years Johnson quickly changed his mind on the Civil Rights Act, he did this in order to win the whole country's votes.
As soon as he became President in November 1963, Johnson invited Richard Russell of Georgia so they can associate about the Act. The map of 1960 Electoral votes between John F Kennedy as a democrat, Richard Nixon as Republican and Harry Byrd being independent. Russell explains to Johnson that if he passes the Act, the citizens will no longer vote for John F Kennedy. Johnson got to be president and ended up passing the Civil Rights Act, This proves that he is willing to do anything and everything in his power to win over the people and their votes.
All in all President Lyndon Johnson was driven to pass the Civil Rights Act in order to win the voters he needed and wanted. He was motivated by Politics and was not passing the Act for the benefit of the people, He knew that if he passed the Act the people would like him more and were willing to all vote for him.
