Who Is Walt Disney's The Three Little Pigs
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, to Elias and Flora Disney in Chicago, Illinois. When Walt was four years old, his family moved to Marceline, Missouri, where he and his younger sister Ruth would attend school in 1909, Walt’s first schooling. His family stayed in Marceline for four more years before selling their farm and moving to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1917, the Disneys moved back to Chicago after Elias secured shares in a jelly factory there. That fall, Walt attended McKinley High School and enrolled in night classes at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Walt became a cartoonist for the school’s newspaper with patriotic cartoons about World War I. However, when Walt was just 16 years old he dropped out of high school to go into the army, but was rejected because he was underage. Consequently, Walt joined the Red Cross and went to France in 1918, becoming an ambulance driver. In 1919, he moved back to Kansas City to begin his art career. Walt tried to find a job there, as an actor, artist, or ambulance driver, but no one hired him. He then got help from his older brother Roy who was working at a bank. This short was The Three Little Pigs. It had a very strong story and was emotionally gripping. After The Three Little Pigs, Walt got the idea to create a story department to develop better stories for the shorts. The song, “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” from the Three Little Pigs became a sort of anthem for the Great Depression. On November 18, 1932, Walt received a special academy award for the creation of Mickey Mouse. In 1935, the Mickey Mouse series switched to color including the spinoffs for Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck. Donald’s first appearance was in 1934, in Orphan’s Benefit. Walt’s talents were first seen in a silent cartoon named Plane Crazy. Before the cartoon could be released, sound was introduced to the motion picture industry. Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in Steamboat Willie, the world's first synchronized sound cartoon, which premiered at the Colony Theater in New York on November 18, 1928 (Walt Disney, Biography). On December 21, 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated musical feature, premiered at the Carthay Theater in Los Angeles. The film produced at the highly cost of $1,499,000 during the extents of the Depression, the film is considered one of the greatest imperishable monuments of the motion picture industry. After five years, Walt Disney Studios completed another full-length animated classics such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi(Walt Disney, Biography). In 1940, construction was finally completed on the Burbank Studio, and Disney's staff swelled to more than 1,000 artists, animators, story men, and technicians.     Walter found his infatuation with art while high school, contributing his work to the school paper, carrying that over throughout the war with sketches, and when returning back to Kansas from France pursued a career as a newspaper artist. While pursuing that career he teamed up with his brother Roy and fellow cartoonist Ub Iwerks, who would later create Woody Woodpecker, and developed their own studio, Laugh-O-Gram.
