Arthur Miller, the playwright, makes Willy Lowman a sympathetic character in death of a salesman because of the many struggles that he endures. Willy Lowman desires wealth but unfortunately never achieves it. Willy has been having trouble with his job selling merchandise and when he decides to ask his boss for help he is fired. Willy desires the American dream just as much as we do, however he never reaches it. Willy, however makes the biggest sacrifice for his family by committing suicide. By committing suicide his family will receive his inheritance. Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of a line, couplet, or stanza. On page 98 of Wolosky’s “The Art of Poetry” there is enjambment in the first line of the poem. “Margaret, are you grieving/ Over Goldengrove unleaving? Instead of stopping at the end of the line, the sentence rolls over to a different line which is a example of enjambment.
8. Personification is a comparison always compares something that is not human to the human realm (page93). On page 94 we can see an example of personification. In line 7 “And are gathered now like sleeping flowers.” Flowers are incapable of going to sleep. The flowers have been given a human characteristic which is a form of personification.
9. A metaphor is the transfer of some quality, or attribute, or word associated with one thing to another. In William Wordsworth poem on page 30-31 of “The Art of Poetry” we can see many metaphors.
