Listing of alternative courses of action that could be taken & Evaluation of alternative courses of action.

1. Team Work

Sniff and Scurry display team work in their quest to find cheese. They work together. Sniff, “sniffed ahead” and Scurry, “scurried ahead” looking for cheese. Their effective team work allowed them to stay on the cheese. In order to work effectively together the two of them had to communicate well with each other. Hem and Haw did not work together.

2. Listening

Sniff and Scurry demonstrated how important it is to listen to each other. By listening to each other they were able to navigate the maze and find cheese. Hem demonstrated how not to listen. Hem would not listen to Haw when Haw was trying to get him to move forward.

3. Motivate

Haw used motivational quotes to communicate with not only others but himself. His quotes kept him focused on changing with change. His quotes were also left for Hem, in case he decided to join the journey.

4. Imagination and Creativity

Spencer Johnson, the author used his imagination in creating these characters, the maze, and the cheese. His ability to use his imagination and creativity was an effective communication tool. If the book had been about four ordinary people, the book would not have the same effect.

A person should realize if they are not changing and looking to get better they will get comfortable and be left behind the times. Don’t be afraid to change. Change is a good thing. Make the most of it. A person should move from their comfort zones.

The story involves four characters who live in a maze: the mice Scurry and Sniff, and two 'little people', Hem and Haw. All is going well because they have found a huge source of their favorite food, cheese. Hem and Haw have even moved their houses to be near it and it has becomes the center of their lives. But they do not notice that it is getting smaller, and are devastated when they arrive at the site one morning and find the cheese is gone. The mice, Sniff and Scurry possessed simple rodent brains but good instincts searched for the hard nibbling cheese they liked. In contrast, the two little people Hem and Haw, used brains filled with many believes and emotions to search for a different kind of cheese which they believed would make them feel happy and successful. This is where the story splits in two. Scurry and Sniff quickly accept the loss of the cheese and go off into the maze in search of other sources. The little people, because they have built their lives around the big cheese, feel they are the victim of some kind of fraud or theft. Yet this only makes things worse, as their clinging on ensures that they go hungry. Meanwhile, the mice move on and find new cheese.…

Throughout time, people have had to go through change. Whether it had been moving to a new city or starting a new job, people all around the world have to deal with it. Every person that has endured change has had their own way to handle it. Some people complain and fail to comply with the fact that change will happen and others strive to be a part of the future to come. Dr. Spencer Johnson took note of this when he wrote “Who Moved My Cheese.” This simple story demonstrated the ways that many people deal with change. Using evidence from the story, I have to come to the conclusion that the best way to deal with change is the same way the Sniff and Scurry did, immediately adapt when change comes.…

The most apparent symbol in the novel is the title, ‘I am the Cheese’ which was taken from the nursery rhyme ‘The Farmer in the Dell.’ As the song goes each character takes someone with them when the farmer leaves, but the cheese has nobody and it stands alone. Therefore, Adam is known as the cheese. Adam is left in this world alone and believes that he is not wanted by anyone since his parents’ death. This symbol develops the theme of an individual against the society. Another symbol in the novel is the character, Brint. He stands for corruption of the government because he works in the same company as Grey and is only interested in getting information out of Adam. This helps construct the second theme of the novel which was abuse of power by the…

Before I get to the main story line, let me explain the symbolism behind the cheese and the maze. The “cheese” is a symbol for what you want to have in life (ex. doing well in school, making a team, getting a job, finding love, etc.). And the “maze” is where you look for what you want (school, work, community, etc.). Now, this is where the mice and little people come in. They spend their time running around this maze looking for cheese. All four of the characters (Scurry, Sniff, Hem, and Haw) all find cheese at Station C. When suddenly the cheese is all gone one day, Scurry and Sniff leave in search of new cheese. When the situation changed and the cheese had been moved, they changed themselves and moved with the cheese. However, Hem and Haw had a different approach. They ranted and raved at the injustice of it all. They couldn’t believe that the cheese was actually gone! They thought it “wasn't fair” that the cheese was suddenly gone. The little people were growing weak from the lack of cheese because they stayed at Station C hoping the cheese would re-appear. Haw eventually realized that he needed to laugh at himself and move on. Hem however remained reluctant and unwilling the change. So, Haw left Station C in search for more cheese.…
