In Selena Gomez’s “ Who Says,” she is trying to say that you can be whoever you want and no one should judge you because we all have flaws and no one is perfect. She is trying to spread a message that you don’t need to listen to what others say because if you believe in yourself than that is all that matters. In the song she wants you to feel like if you want to do something you love to do and someone else doesn’t you should still do it because no one controls what you do. Selena wants you to believe in yourself and feel that you don’t have to change your appearance just to impress someone or something to get what you want. One is “when you’re a diamond in the rough” this is a metaphor because it’s saying that you are a person with good intentions but you lack manners and other things some good people need. The lyric is “But they keep whiting out the truth.” This helps the theme because people can’t actually white out the truth unless they don’t want it to come out or they are not telling the full truth.
