The automobile is a daily part of our lives, whether it’s on the streets or in your driveway/carport, it’s an everyday use. But who is the true creator of the automobile? Many historians believe it could be Henry Ford, Richard Dundgeon or Carl Benz, but information shows Carl Benz was the actual creator of the first true automobile. Reason is, is that the information in the passage shows he had his automobile running on its own, made the speed regulation system, and that Ford and Dundgeon were only recognized as the first because they were well known.
In the passage History of Carl Benz it says, “During his years at university he had already started to envision concepts for a vehicle that would eventually become the horseless carriage.” This shows that Benz was already imagining the first automobile before Ford was even born. Those envisions led him to create many different variations of engines. Benz used those engines to create the first definitive commericial vehicle, the Model 3, an automobile with a four-stroke engine of his own design in between the rear wheels. Benz’s first automobile used his own patented speed regulation system, along with many other things including the spark plug. Ford also used the same things in his Model T but he most likely would not have made it that far in the production of Model T without Benz’s creations. Ford would also have needed the gear shift for his automobile, another creation of Benz. In the passage History of Carl Benz it states, “Carl Benz’s true genius became obvious thanks to his successive inventions.” Which implies that his patented creations went a far way because many automobiles still use it
