Was Marie-Antionette The Perfect Scapegoat? Marie Antoinette was the perfect target to blame for all the problems France was having at this time. In many ways, she somehow tries to help the French people. The marriage was supposed to bring in peace and friendship to both of the countrys, but instead, it just puts this into a more difficult position than before, married into a royal court that hated anything Austrian at this time. Since Austria and France had been fought in wars for years.France obviously didn’t want a foreigner on the throne,especially not an Austrian to be their queen, which didn’t even know much about its country. But the thing is, before she came to France, the revolution was already smouldering
because of the financial disasters, Louis XV. Basicly, France was already almost bankrupt when Marie Antoinette steps into this whole revolution, and because of the French needed someone to blame it on to find a point to starts the revolution. From this point, she was the perfect victim, that she was both female and Austrian. So the people tried to make all of the France believe that she had no concern of her people, which she had an extravagant lifestyle at the time of French’s declining Monarchy. That she spending money on dresses and parties while the population was desperate and didn’t even care about her people. In many ways, the people did believe it. Although she was completely innocent, she and her husband was executed, destroying the whole French monarchy and the French credibility all around the world for as far as the French had that anyway. In conclusion, Marie Antoinette would be the perfect scapegoat to blame on for the whole French Revolution.
