Whole Food: The Mcgregor Theory
The role that McGregor theory Y plays at Whole Food is a very ethical business practice. His focus is on a conscious level on all aspects of business roles such as management and leadership. McGregor theory flourishes with ideas on building a strong foundation of success and equal opportunities. McGregor vision a higher purpose for Whole Food stores through a consciousness of leadership, culture, and stakeholder models. These models will have everything to do with whole food. For instance, the employees and the setup of Whole Food store will have a negative impact or a positive impact on customers. The reason being is the employee attitude and the ease of shopping in the environment. Nevertheless, if the outcome is positive for each of Whole Foods customers then that would create a greater impact on investors, suppliers, and etcetera. Positive attitudes and behavior with all members is the key to the internal and external community (Hanson,2011). …show more content…
In addition, leadership will be a significant gain as employees sharing the same vision at Whole Foods will help to sustain the entire community by all fulfilling Whole Foods purpose. McGregor believed in hiring employees that have and serve the same passion as Whole Food. Compatibility and happiness in individuals bring satisfying results. This creates a positive outcome for all stakeholders in the company as well as the community. McGregor theory strives on everyone winning and receiving equal amounts of rewards. His theory is based on a comprehendible uncomplex consciousness level of righteousness and ethical business practices. In addition, the laws and regulations were very important factors in treating everyone equally.     1. What is your opinion about John Mackey’s social mission at Whole Foods as a corporate strategy? Discuss the specific values in his “Declaration of Interdependence.” John Mackey explained that the concept of Whole Foods was patterned after Maslow’s human hierarchy of needs theory. This stated that human beings, once their need for food and safety was met, would aspire to fulfill their needs for belonging, community and beauty. John Mackey also stated that his desire was to promote the well being of the people and the earth. He frequently describes himself as a “caring person who wants human’s to flourish.” He is an evangelist for Conscious Capitalism a philosophy stating that businesses can profit from having passion and purpose. John Mackey basically geared his business towards looking out for not only the environment but also the whole human. In my opinion, John Mackey’s integration of his social mission as a corporate strategy was a great idea because companies with a social mission have a competitive edge. Secondly, consumers are inclined to support a company that truly cares about their wellbeing and make a positive on the world. Lastly, people want to work for an employer who respects their ideas and treat them as “equal stakeholders.” The end result is more productivity and happy consumers because employees are happy so they advocate for the business.     “In Defense of Food” is a book written by Michael Pollan which was released in 2008. Pollan writes about the “Western Diet” and the dangers associated with it. He proposes a new answer to what we should and should not eat. He states that it comes down to seven simple words: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.     First, McGregor’s Theory Y is a modern and positive set of assumptions about people. McGregor believed managers could accomplish more through others by viewing them as self-energized , committed, responsible, and creative beings(Kreitner and Kinicki,2010, pg.8).
