One would believe that the U.S has the most functional departments, but in 9/11 they did not respond well to the disaster. Before 9/11 even happen the departments did not get well with each other, in fact “the FDNY and NYPD each considered itself operationally autonomous” (heroism). This shows when it came to 9/11 they were not prepared, even if they should have been working together to save more people they still did not communicate with each other. Before people going to the airports could get away with a lot of things that today would be considered completely dangerous. Also, after 9/11 they install the Department of Homeland Security. In a article it talks about was what the security before 9/11 and one of the facts were that “you could bring blades up to 4 inches long aboard a plane”( O’Connor). Also you could have brought baseball bats, box cutters, darts, knitting needles and scissors were also allowed on board, according to an FAA manual obtained by CBS News.
