Why A College Should Not Be Free For The American Citizen
College is not to be trifled with! Would a college degree matter as much if it were just handed out to people? The answer is no. Here are the reasons why college should cost the U.S. citizen! For years a college degree has been a key to obtaining better jobs and dreams. If everyone in the U.S. had a million dollars would it be worth the same as it is today? So, American citizens need to ask themselves “Would a college degree be worth what it is today if everyone had one?” College should not be free for the American citizens. Consequently, a lot of the jobs that previously required a college degree would have their education requirements raised, the United States Government would need to raise taxes significantly in order to pay for …show more content…
For several years college has been something to strive for. Through his/her own hard work for good grades to earn a scholarship, interning at a business or corporation to gain funds, or even through enlisting to the military one should then be granted their chance to enter school. College is taken seriously by many people due to how hard they worked to get there so they can improve their future and make their dreams a reality. People who are just handed things tend to not appreciate them as well as something they worked as hard to get. So, would it not be natural to take it for granted if people were simply handed a college education without paying any …show more content…
That decision would be up to congress. It is universally recognized that mankind will always want more than they have. If the United States people are handed two “free” years of college, then they would then ask for three or four. The United States Government would need to find a way to pay for this and they would do it the same way they are paying for other programs. Taxes would raise, and budgets would be cut. A few ways the U.S. Government gains funds are through tax revenue, fines/penalties, fees, revenue, and printing

People in American history worked hard to become successful, and there should be nothing stopping the current generation from putting in the same effort. A dollar sign should not stop anyone from accomplishing their goals in life. One must possess drive and determination to receive a college degree. To maintain the quality of education colleges should keep required tuition in place. Clothes, food, and shelter are necessary cost for life, no one argues against that. People are willing to pay for essentials, but not an education. Is an education no longer a necessity? The government should not have to raise taxes, and leave society to pay for people’s necessities. College campuses should not be crowded with students who do not truly want to be there. The unemployment rate should not increase because of the devaluation of degrees. Doesn't everyone want to be successful? It's hard to be when most of us can't afford an education. College funds should be covered by the government instead of the student's and their parent's pockets. If the government would invest in covering all student's college funds, it would benefit the economy, give everyone an equal opportunity and students wouldn't have to start off their lives in debt. The government would be making a very smart invest and they would benefit greatly off it. The government paying for college funds would change lives and make a huge impact on our society. America would look better as whole if the government decided to go through with this idea. More people would choose college. Isn't education what this country needs?…

Many people would agree that college should be free because not everyone has the money to pay for one semester or a whole school year. In my opinion, college shouldn’t be free but at least cheaper than ruining a student’s life. “College graduates from the class of 2014 owe an average of nearly $29,000 in student loan debt.” According to Tyler Kingkade from the Huffington Post in “Average Student Debt Rises For Class Of 2014.” This is one of the top reasons why students decide to skip college and start work right away. I don’t believe college should be free because the average american can be seen as lazy and uncaring when it comes to schooling especially free schooling. It’s given the idea that if it’s free, it isn’t important and it’s taken for granted. With the price on college people are able to take college seriously because they have to pay for it. Not only that if college wasn’t free, taxpayers would have a skyrocketing price to pay for their taxes.…

Many students across the country struggle to afford college tuition. It is quite common to take on debt in order to complete a degree. History has shown that a college education can be essential to succeeding in America. If the government picked up the cost of college, it would allow students to focus on their studies and become better workers. A college education provides young Americans with many more job opportunities. They are much more likely to make more money, and also less likely to be unemployed than those with only a high school education. Not only will America benefit from having a larger supply of domestic workers, the country will benefit from those workers earning higher wages. The extra income they earn will flow back into the economy. Many politicians have suggested a government program to pick up the cost of tuitions. These suggestions have been met with both widespread support and opposition. Providing young Americans with a free public college education would have numerous benefits to society. The country would see great economic and social improvements. Funding students’ college education is more than the right thing to do; it is an investment in a future of the country. A program for free college is essential to pave a brighter future for the United States of…

    College Expense

Although a good education for all Americans is essential for individual success and national economy, the truth is it has become increasingly expensive and doesn’t even guarantee a job after graduation. What exactly qualifies as a “good education?” Most people associate higher education with good education. Every year students will have to pay 3-4% more over inflation due to available subsidized loans and increased aid (McArdle). This means that because of the massive amounts of people receiving some form of aid, colleges are raising the costs to compensate charging more from the students who “can afford college.” As if anyone not in the upper 10% can attend some of these universities without struggle. Is the education they’re receiving 3-4% better, or what else could contribute to the higher costs of attending college? How much of the degree a graduate earns is “credentials, and how much [is] education?” (McArdle). A diploma should not be like Prada— based on reputation of school, rather than the effectiveness as learning the curriculum. Millennials grew up being told the only way to get a good job was with a college diploma. The effect of this mentality was our college systems being flooded making the value of a higher education decrease. With the increasing amount of college graduates and the decrease in amount of available jobs, is a college education necessary or even worth it? Assuming it is necessary and worth it, is it a “right” that everyone receives a college education?…

In the US, higher education is really important to succeed in the future. “In 2003, the typical full-time year-round worker in the United States with a four-year college degree earned $49,900, 62 percent more than the $30,800 earned by the typical full-time year-round worker with only a high school diploma” (U.S. Census Bureau). That means if you have a bachelor’s degree, you would get a better job and salary compared to people who do not have one. “Nearly 68 percent of high school graduates started out for college (44 percent of these kids to community college)” (Mark. Para.4). Everyone knows how important it is to go to college and get a bachelor’s degree for the better life. However, there has been a really big problem in education: college tuition has gradually been going up year after year. This is one of the latest problems the government must deal with right now. To make matters worse, college tuition in the US is much higher than that of other countries. If the cost of taking a class in college goes up more, some people might hesitate to attend college even if educational background carries a lot of weight in this society of US. The government should reduce the cost of tuition so more students can easily to go to college.…
