There are numerous occupations where employers emphasize “the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing” (Ungar, 2016). Meaning that communication is something that employers look for when considering potential employees. Communication is a skill that can be obtained in many ways, but in my opinion, the most effective way is by broadening your education. It was my public speaking class that played a part in me communicating in a more effective way, but for others, it can be a business class, an art class or even a music class. This class allowed me to view how others communicate with various areas of study and how I could incorporate this into my life and even on a future occupation. Whether my future occupation consists of actuarial sciences, accounting or auditing some sort of financial document, communication will play an important part in all these potential occupations. With a major in management and minors in art, environmental science and accounts, this sparse background can display my versatility and how I can incorporate these skills on a job and open the door to possibilities I didn’t think was plausible. My perspective on education has changed for the best in my opinion because before attending a Liberal Arts college I intended to major in Mathematics with minors in accounts and economics, which I thought at that time was the right path for me. My path was changed because of the exposure I had to various areas of study that made me realize that I was not doing what I should be doing. Although I am still a freshman, there are numerous opportunities available to me simply because of my backgrounds such as the summer camp internship program for people with a major or minor in environmental studies and an internship at Arvest bank due to my background in accounting. Career opportunities can possibly be created in a variety of ways but based on my experience a broader education can lead to more opportunities being created and can easily be initiated by taking that class you never thought you would
