Why Am I Applying for the Celta Course
WHY DO YOU WANT TO APPLY FOR CELTA?

EXPERIENCE

As a teacher by profession, I have taught children of different age groups with different abilities from different backgrounds. It has been and is still is an amazing profession because you never stop learning new things and impacting lives and making a positive difference in the lives of children. I was losing my passion and joy for teaching but gained it back when I went to teach in Japan for 2 years. It was 2 years of rediscovering my joy for teaching others, 2 years of planning what exactly I wanted to do with teaching and a clearer picture of how far I want to go in my teaching career.

DEVELOPING STRENGTHS AND SKILLS

I am grateful for the privilege I have as a teacher to be able to apply and develop my knowledge and skills when planning lessons, differentiating them for different abilities, marking and giving constructive feedback, setting tests and assess and correlate data for each pupil, how to manage a class of children and adults, developing the curriculum to suit the needs of the pupils by using new ideas. However to be an well grounded EAL teacher and consultant, I believe the CELTA course wil help me further enhance my skills and understanding of teaching English as a second language to children and adults of any age.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND NETWORKING

I would like to apply and study to obtain the CELTA certificate because it is a highly practical one that would help develop language skills in a more structured way. It would provide me with better in depth knowledge and understanding of the English Grammar and up to date teaching methodology. It would also give me a very good opportunity to interact and network with students from other cultures and prepare me for lifelong teaching and learning in and out of the UK.

I use to think that being a teacher was going to be a short eight hours of teaching and being with children. Having summers off made being a teacher seem a lot more beneficial to. Being a teacher seemed to be the easiest career choice out there for me. After viewing the second grade classroom in Shepherdstown Elementary it is safe to say that I have changed my opinion of teaching. There is unquestionably another side to the world of a teacher that can only be seen inside a classroom. Watching the students made me realize that being a teacher will no doubt carry some difficulties but, it will all pay off in the end. Observing has made me realize that there is more to teaching, the classroom, and what goes on inside.…

    Goal Statement

My main reason for wanting to become a teacher is because I love children and I love working with them. Upon graduation from Boston College, I've had the opportunity of working in New York City public schools as a substitute teacher and at a privately owned nursery school in the Bronx as a part-time instructor. My experiences have been very rewarding thus far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. I can't even begin to describe the joyous feeling of knowing that I've touched the lives of the kids-- it is truly priceless. When kids pass tests, when kids say, "I get it," when kids come in and say, "Thanks. You're the best teacher I ever had," or "will we have you again" that means a lot. They make me laugh, they give me hugs, they cheer for my presence, they are observant, and most of them just need a little push. They give me nicknames, they miss me when I'm gone, they try so hard to do what I ask so much of the time. The most amazing feeling of all though is when the kids tell me they want to be just like me and teach just like me and are able to go in front of the class and teach others what I have just taught them. I have finally discovered what I am truly passionate about and am pursuing this passion by continuing my education so that I am able to fulfill my goal of being the best that anyone possible could be. This is what has driven me to want to go to Mercy and continue my education to become a teacher.…

In my heart I have always wanted to teach. I believe that there are three ingredients to learning. All children can learn, children should be respected as people, and children are children and should be treated that way. I believe that children are able to learn regardless of their race, religion, social status and the environment around them. With a little patience and kindness you can teach a child almost anything. Respect is something that is earned. I believe that if you show children the respect that they deserve they will respect you in return. My goal as an educator is to help children learn in a safe, healthy, nurturing and structured environment. I think that children learn best when there are clear and concise rules and when they are able to participate in their learning. During my teaching experience, I find that children learn with different learning styles. Multiple intelligences play a big role in their learning.…

When I completed my undergraduate I never thought of becoming a teacher. I always thought that I wanted to become a police officer. I wanted to help people, live an active and adrenalin filled career. After a few years in the military working as a police officer that adrenalin rush and life style got old real quick. That career was not for me and I was meant for something else. What I realized what really made me happy was my time as a coach. I have spent time as a volunteer football coach with several different age groups. I enjoyed every minute of it. Interacting with student athletes and participating in school activities was refreshing and rewarding. This is when I considered a change in careers.…

As a child I always loved my teachers. They always found a way to make learning fun and exciting. I knew I wanted to work with kids when I got older and help them find learning just as fun and exciting as I did. Everyday I’d come home from school and teach what I’ve learned to my younger siblings using the same methods my teachers used. They began finding learning just as enjoyable as I’d hoped. From then on I was inspired to be part of the life changing team of childcare workers and instill the thoughts that learning is fun in young children today.…

One major thing I have noticed since becoming a teacher is how my views on education have changed. Before I became a teacher I assumed things about teaching that are not at all correct. I thought that when I became a teacher, it would be really easy. After all, my teachers (and mother) made it seem fairly easy. I was completely wrong. I thought I would be able to stand up there, teach and every single student would understand what I would be teaching. I thought all the students would do their work, behave and listen to me. Boy was I mistaken. There are so many different learning styles that I have to accommodate for, different activities I have to come up with in order to spark the students’ interests, and behaviors I never dreamed I would have to deal with. I am only into my third year of teaching I have been teaching for only three years, and each year I have had to make changes to accommodate the types of students I have. Some teachers assume the students will be the same every year and do not make changes at all. The learning process for each individual student is different. For some, it comes easier, for others it can be might be a little more difficult.…

When I first made the decision to go to college to be a teacher, I did it because I enjoyed kids. Now after being in the education program for two years and having been in multiple classrooms, I have decided that I want to be a teacher not only because I like kids, but because I enjoy being a part of the intellectual and physical development children go through. To me being able to witness and help in the development and growth that children undergo in the classroom is one of the most rewarding feelings I have ever experienced. I have had teaching experience in both small and large group settings and the feeling was the same, when I can help a child succeed in learning, I find myself successful too.…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…
