But the lessons fairy tales teach are in many cases relevant for adults. Today most people see fairy tales as children’s literature, but this has not always been the case. Once fairy tales were an art shared by people of all ages and social classes. Children often play and make up their own stories, they use their imagination and fantasy is a part of their daily life. The way fairy tales are built up appeals to children because it gives them an opportunity to learn and understand. Children need guidance. One of the ways fairy tales can teach children things and entertain them is by guiding them through the stories. Fairy tales are for everyone. They are stories of the people; their roots grow deep into our roots and society. Though we have changed their original purpose and associated them with children stories, they aren’t any less meaningful. Fairy tales simplicity to read is very much so misunderstood when it comes to morals and meanings as they mean so much with so…

Like Gottschall said, “fiction seems to teach us to see the world through rose-colored lenses.” (3), by growing up with lots of fictional happy endings, we expect all fairy tales to end in a “good for everyone” way but in real life, there are no happy endings. There are no happy endings because there is no ending. All stories are somehow interconnected and continued after the supposed end. However, if kids watched dark, realistic fairy tales from the start, our entire society would look different. Ceridwen Dovey wrote in his article that “the ability to guess...what another human being might be thinking or feeling…[starts] to develop around the age of four”(3). So unemotional children would eventually turn into passive adults, leading to a cold…

Fairytale and fantasy is a genre of literature that has been introduced to generations and generations of children from very young ages. The tales that never have an unhappy ending are regarded as stories for children in today’s society; however Neil Gaiman, the author of Stardust, argues that children were never really the targeted audience for these narratives that they were in fact intended to be delivered to adults. “Children listened to them and enjoyed them, but children were not the primary audience... it was not that the furniture had originally been made for children: it had once been for adults and was consigned to the nursery only when the adults grew tired of it and it became unfashionable.” This quote from Gaiman is simply stating that fairytales were designed for adults…

From Walt Disney to the Grimm Brothers, many different versions were created, but they all have one important element that outshined even the element of having a moral, and that element was imagination. Every child loves the fantasy and magic that every great fairytale possesses. Each story holds plot-twisting surprises such as knights fighting fire-breathing dragons or princesses awakened from death by true love’s kiss. Fairytales offer each child something that reality cannot always provide: hope. Especially in today’s world, children see so many horrible things that they may become very pessimistic towards the idea of a bright future. Often, the adults that influence their worlds do not see the importance of fairytales, and many times, deem them completely insignificant. Contrary to popular belief, fairytales, such as Cinderella, are of great importance to our society. There are certain values that children learn best from fantasy because their reality is the farthest thing from a fairytale world. The role models in the lives of today’s children are often inadequate to properly portray the virtues that society needs in its members. So, fairytales like Cinderella are promising teaching tools. By reading some of the variants of Cinderella, children can learn the importance of having virtues such as kindness, humility, and even perseverance, in society.…
