Why Illegal Immigrants Are Bad For the US Imagine, if you will, the American Dream-a family sure to be successful in building a good life together. Now, unfortunately, Americans have to put the American Dream on hold because they have been relegated to “survival mode” due to the economic decline resulting in loss of jobs and homes. The American people are at a low point which is not helped by the tremendous amount of illegal immigrants entering the United States illegally everyday. The United States is indeed the land of opportunity and leads people from all over to want to come here but coming through the “back door” is wrong. If they go through the steps of becoming an American citizen the right way many Americans I think will be okay

The number one way illegal immigrants hurt Americans is by taking jobs.
In 2008 and 2010 illegal immigrants gained one million jobs as Americans were losing them. (Why illegal Immigration is bad for America) Since they work “off the books” they pay no direct taxes also receive free housing, education, food stamps and health care. They receive federal housing making struggling Americans and legal citizens stuck waiting for a spot. (The Associated Press) The department of education states all students legal or not are entitled to public education. (Our Public Schools) This is a problem public schools are already financially struggling, my old high school laid off many teachers leaving class rooms with more students, more work for the teacher and less time for individual help. Illegal immigrants receive free emergency room health care by the federal emergency medical treatment and labor act which requires U.S hospitals to provide care no matter what their legal status. (Book) For the medical bills not paid by illegal immigrants, insured Americans rates are raised to make up the lost funds. How is all this fair? When Americans are homeless, their children’s education is being cut short and insured Americans rates are
rising!
Another Factor in how illegal immigration hurts Americans is the census bureau. Every ten years the census bureau counts the number of people living in the United States, getting basic information such as race, age, and sex. When I was younger I remember my parents filling out the census bureau, and talking about it. I thought how weird it was that information such as that was needed, not realizing how important it really is. And it is, “the census is most definitely important, our whole democracy is based on it. The census ensures that each community gets the right number of representatives in government” -Gordon De Jong professor at Penn State, (Solmaz Barazesh). The census helps distribution of public funds, Such as federal and state funding for education, health care, highways etc. In 2010 state officials were worried to get an accurate count of Hispanics especially illegal immigrants. For example every person missed in Arizona would cost $400 per year for the next ten years which can add up to millions of lost funding. Le, Professor at University of Massachusetts. (Why It 's Important) Illegal Aliens enter the United States by crossing the US-Mexico Border. It is located along the 261 mile long Sonoran Desert in Southern Arizona. It is also the busiest and deadliest access into the US as well. (Photographer Recounts Crossing U.S Border 1) Some immigrants pay others to drive them across the border while they are hiding in the trunks, hiding in containers or being smuggled in via ship. Others take the treacherous hike through that Sonoran Desert which results in their deaths most of the time or being caught by Boarder Patrol. I understand when non Americans think of America they think of the Land of Opportunity and it’s true but is it really worth risking your life and freedom by coming here illegally? I think not. You may be thinking well, “Let’s just close the boarder!” The US Government has made it clear that they refuse to close the border. President Obama has closed nine Border Patrol stations yet left the border wide open! (Judson Berger) Why would he do that to allow more and more illegal immigrants to enter the US? If those illegal immigrants we see as a “minor threat” can gain access into the United States that easy then AL-Qaeda terrorists can just as easily enter the US. It’s an open sign saying “hey, come on in!” It scares me to think that the US is an open point where real threats are coming here and can set up attacks and the US Government is closing patrol stations?! We can try to stop this from happening but we are getting no cooperation from our government. With those illegal immigrants crossing the US Border they are stealing social security numbers, finding jobs and receiving benefits such as federal housing, food stamps, health care and education. If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get twelve years of labor. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. If you cross the Mexican border illegally you get deported. (Border Crossing) I’m not saying we should treat them as other countries do for illegal crossing but it should not be as easy to get into the U.S and illegal immigrants should be deported immediately! Another important reason I believe illegal immigrants coming here illegally is bad is that they bring unwanted crimes. It floods our communities with unnecessary gang violence, drugs, and sense-less deaths of American people. Eighty-three percent of warrants issued in Phoenix, Arizona are for illegal aliens. (Abandoned the American Southwest) The biggest issue for me is that when they come here illegally they resort to those crimes and eventually flee back to Mexico where they can go into deep hiding. More money is being spent to capture the illegal fugitives and bring them back to the US to face justice. It makes me ponder the question whether or not illegal immigrants really want to be here to pursue their American Dream or to just feed off of the free services our government is providing to them. Illegal immigration is hurting the United States. Even if illegal immigrants don’t affect us directly they do affect us as a country. I believe in helping others but only if they come to America the right way and become legal citizens. We need to help our own people, our own hungry children, the homeless, any struggling American and not give to non-citizens of the United States. Unemployment is already horrible and to have illegal immigrants take our jobs away and our money by sending it to family in Mexico does not help job growth for the unemployed Americans or keep money in the U.S. Who benefits from illegal immigrants? Not American citizens, the aliens themselves obviously benefit from coming to this country illegally and that’s it.
