Most of the states under the Articles of Confederation had different currency.
This would be bad because if people had to move from Pennsylvania to New York because of war or something else those people could not use their money from Pennsylvania in New York. This could easily make people poor when entering different states. Also trade between the states would never work because if New York wanted to trade their currency to Pennsylvania New York’s currency is worth nothing to a person in pennsylvania meaning that the person in New York won't be able to get what they need from Pennsylvania. This is a very big problem under the Articles of
Confederation. Without the right to tax the states the government couldn’t pay for anything. According to (page 206) it states that “Under the Articles, most power remained in the hands of the states. Congress could not regulate trade or collect taxes without asking for taxes from the states”. The government didn’t have any money and without the right to tax the people of the United States the government couldn’t pay off their big debt. Their biggest debt was the war debt from the American Revolution. This meant they could not pay for anything before paying back the debts. Without this right to tax America was dry on money and was a very poor country.
The Articles of Confederation made many problems occur in the United States. The bill of rights was is a very important part to many people in the United States and without it made the people angry. The ability to have different currencies in each of the states made it hard for people to trade in different states. FInally without the government being able to tax the United States citizens they could not pay of their debts. The Articles of Confederation was a constitution with too many issues that needed to be changed.
