If something happens that would trigger this instinct to kill, the animal is punished. One example is an incident at the Cincinnati Zoo. A 4 year old boy crawled into the gorilla enclosure. A 17 year old gorilla named Harambe picked the boy up and carried him around. The fact a four (4) year old was able to make it in the enclosure implies the zoo was not keeping the animals enclosed properly. A gate was left open, meaning the animals could get out. However, this is not what happened. The visitors entered the pen and approached the pack. While a mother distracted herself, her twelve (12) year old son approached the fencer and put his hand through. The leader, Rebel, was defending he territory when he bit the boys hand. The puncture wounds were shallow and easily treated, however, there are no rabies vaccines for wolves. So the zoo was forced to give the family a choice. Risk having rebel euthanized and get the shots either way due to him having rabies, or get the shots and let rebel
