Why Athletes Should Be Paid
So you are just about to sign the biggest contract of your life and your family is with you hoping to take in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Do you think this is right? Having athletes make thousands of dollars for a game. Yes I do. First, Athletes do a lot the help the public. Athletes will hold camps to help kids with basic life skills. Also, They will go out in public to hang out with kids and meet people and make them happy. Now, Athletes will also help at food markets or schools during the off season to give back to the public and the kids who support them in the good and bad. And of course, Athletes never forget where they came from most people will give back to the towns they came from and give money the the schools or other places …show more content…
First, Athletes will be away from their family to play the sport they love. If they could choose what team they go to they would probably choose the team they are closest to. But that's not always the case they go to whatever team drafts them. Also, if they get traded to another team they will have to buy a new house in the area which they are drafted to. At the same time, Most insurance won’t cover athletes because they are putting their beating their bodies up at their own will and they dont want to pay for their surgeries . So they're on their own with medical treatment and if they get in a car wreck they have to pay it off their insurance won’t. It is in my belief that, If fans are willing to pay the price to get tickets and watch their favorite team play live then the players deserve the money they get when they amaze the fans with diving catches, long hail mary’s, strikeouts and amazing hits. Next, Athletes will work their entire life to get where they are today. They have made choices from not going out with friends and not going to movies and etc. I know this personally because I have had to make these choices to stay and practice to get better rather than go out and hang out with friends. This decision is hard for a lot of people but it will pay of in the long run. Most importantly, If they are good enough to make the team and managers want them to stay on that team then they will pay them a lot of money to stay with them. So

The biggest question circulating in college sports right now is the controversial topic that ask, “Should college athletes be paid?” In August, a federal judge decided that players in top college football and men’s basketball programs- the big-money sports- are entitled to receive payment if their “names, images, and likenesses” are used in video games or TV broadcasts, according to Veronica Majerol, author of the article “Should College Athletes Be Paid”. It is a subject that has been around for a long period of time, and is now receiving light on the matter. The problem with this is where would the funds come from? Why should college athletes be paid to participate in their sports? College athletes are awarded tuition free college due to their hard work and athletic abilities, why should they get paid extra money outside of their tuition being paid? Student athletes in college only have two jobs while they are attending, to learn and become a better and smarter athlete. These student athletes don’t need extra money outside of having their tuition, room and board, and food paid for. They are also given clothing which takes away another money based need. These student athletes are given much more than other students and yet they still believe that they should be paid for their extra work outside of their performances. The main reason is because they are already paid through their scholarships to go to school and play sports. Other reasons to this opinion is to maintain their amatuer status, difficult…

Hundreds of Millions of dollars all around the world are being used to pay our athletes. My question is should they be paid this astronomical amount of money. Certain athletes earn millions while various people all around the world can barely afford the necessities, such as food, water and shelter. This is a problem that desperately needs to be addressed. To achieve this we should employ taxes, but the money made off this should go to charity, also we should lower salary caps, thus we restrict the amounts teams can spend on their players. In this report, I will be explaining why athletes should be paid less…

Whether or not college athletes should get paid has been a controversial question for a while now. Twenty years ago there were only six sports related channels on television. Today, there are over 150. This is mainly due to college athletics, ranging from football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. This fact alone would make one question why the profits are not going to the hard-working athletes. They are the ones who make the main event possible. Without the athletes, there would be no game. They are the entertainment that the crowd is paying for and they receive none of the profit.…

Athletes in college may not make money from the games they play, but they don’t really need it either. They rarely have to pay tuition, they don’t pay for room and board, and they probably don’t pay for their food either. They have no need to make money off of their games because everything they need is already paid for. People say they deserve at least part of what they make, but the school uses it to better their school and facilities, so overall it’s being used for the players anyway.…

On the other hand, there are some reasons on why they shouldn’t get paid. The problem with paying the athletes is would all the athletes be paid the same? The athletic scholarship is only a one-year agreement that can only be done by the coach or the universities. Giving back to the community is also a big part of being a professional athlete, and a big part of why they are role models to so many people. An example would be when P.K. Subban donated money to the children's hospital. Being a professional athlete is so much more than just being athletic. One main reason that athletes should not be paid is how athletes with scholarships can make anything from 20.00 dollars to 50,000 dollars and many scholarships allow athletes to purchase anything from food from the school to living essentials they may need. An argument one may use against this that only 56 percent of all college athletes get any form of a scholarship. So the majority of people do not get any form scholarships which will lead to student loan debts. Another argument one may have against college athletes getting paid is some of the greatest athletes in their sports get massive scholarships so they pay next to nothing to go to college. Even though that is true there have been plenty of professional caliber athletes that have gotten career ending injuries during a college season. They may have been getting free or reduced college tuition but they missed out on millions of dollars they would have potentially earned while playing in the professional…
